Abdomen
The abdomen is the part of the body located between the chest and the pelvis. Organs within the abdominal cavity of humans include the large intestine, small intestine, appendix, kidneys and the spleen. Most of the absorption and digestion of nutrients and other foods occurs in this region, making it an important aspect of life. In invertebrates, the abdomen also contains the reproductive organs. In many invertebrates, the abdomen is a complex structure that is broken up to facilitate different needs. For example, in ants the abdomen is broken down into parts such as the propedeum, petiole and the bulbous gaster.
