Azelaic Acid

Azelaic acid is a natural dicarboxylic acid that is found in wheat, rye and is a product of a yeast that is found on human skin. When this substance is applied to the skin in a cream, it aids with the prevention of acne and rosacea, as well as helping with hair growth and protection. For acne treatment, azelaic acid keeps the pores clear by preventing acne causing bacteria from entering them. The acid reduces inflammation and redness caused by the presence of pimples. This substance is available with a prescription from a doctor only, and is not available for purchase over the counter.
