BDD - Body Dysmorphic Disorder
BDD, or Body Dysmorphic Disorder is a psychiatric disorder in which an individual obsesses and worries about slight defects or deformations on their body. Approximately two percent of the population suffers from BDD, and this disorder may account for certain individuals becoming socially isolated due to an extreme lack of self confidence. Individuals with this disorder are often extremely critical about their appearance, though there may be no evidence of physical deformity or defect. This low self-image results in certain individuals gaining the mindset that they are too unattractive to associate with other individuals; therefore, they isolate themselves from others. Treatment of this disorder includes talk therapies and other various cognitive therapies.
