Biopsy
A biopsy is a medical test that is used to examine suspicious cells or tissues. Doctors may order a biopsy of a specific mass of tissue in order to determine if the patient has a certain disease. In order to carry out a biopsy, tissue from the suspected area is removed and run through a series of medical tests in order to determine whether a disease or infection is present. Biopsies can include analysis under a microscope, as well as more complex chemical analysis. A biopsy can be carried out on practically any part of the body, such as breasts, leg muscle, lungs, and other organs.
