Capillary

A capillary is a small vessel in the body that assists in the transportation of blood in the body. Capillaries are the smallest blood vessel in the human body, and are used to connect arteries and veins. Due to a capillarys small size, materials such as oxygen, water and carbon dioxide are able to easily diffuse through the membrane in order to be used by the body. For example, capillaries in the lungs allow for the diffusion and absorption of oxygen that is needed for the body to carry out its everyday functions. Unlike veins and arteries that consist of an endothelium as well as other tissues, capillaries only consist of an endothelium.
