Capsular Contracture

Capsular contracture is a response from the body to foreign materials. The most common examples of capsular contracture pertain to individuals dealing with problems caused by breast implants or other cosmetic implantations. With breast implants it is possible that the tissue, in a protective response to the foreign implants, forms a sort of capsule around the implant. After time, the capsule may begin to shrink as a method of protecting the body from invaders. This may cause the implants to feel firmer and to look rounded or ball-like. In order to correct capsular contracture, the implants may need to be removed, and the capsule cut open to free space.
