Congenital Defect

A congenital defect is defined as a defect that is presented at birth. Common examples of congenital defects include colour blindness, albinism, cleft lips and cleft palates. Certain congenital or birth defects are able to be corrected at an early age. For example, a cleft lip or palate is able to be corrected shortly after birth through reconstructive surgery. Other congenital defects, however, such as colour blindness are not able to be repaired, and an individual may have to suffer from the defect for the entirety of his or her life. Doctors are able to determine whether defects are able to be treated or not.
