Deviated Septum

A deviated septum is a physical disorder in which the nasal septum of the nose is damaged or displaced. The nasal septum is the small layer of cartilage that serves to separate the two nostrils. A deviated septum can be caused by various factors; for example, excessive drug use, improper foetal growth, and injuries to the nose can all result in this disorder. Having a deviated septum may cause excessive nosebleeds, sinus problems, or may, in some cases, result in difficulty breathing. Treatment of this disorder is done through a septoplasty, a cosmetic procedure that rebuilds the septum whilst clearing the airways.
