GMC
The GMC, or General Medical Council, is an organisation that was established under the Medical Act of 1858. The GMC registers doctors to practise in the United Kingdom. The GMC trains new doctors and ensures that each doctor performs their duties fairly, safely and appropriately. The main objectives of the GMC are to keep the standards of doctors in practise up to date, to ensure that doctors are educated to the highest standard, as well as handling cases in which doctors are not performing satisfactorily or who are practising in a dangerous manner. The GMC can also handle complaints about doctors or deal with law suits.
