Gastric Band
A gastric band is a device that is implanted via bariatric surgery in order to help individuals who suffer from obesity. When the bands are placed in the correct position, they create a small pocket or pouch that only holds a certain amount of food. As the pocket gets full quickly, this signals to the brain that the entire stomach is full, all the while; the food is slowly entering the rest of the stomach. Gastric bands allow individuals to lose a significant amount of weight due to the fact that they are consuming a limited amount of food, also; patients will be unconsciously trained to eat smaller portions.
