Haematoma

Haematoma is caused when large or small amounts of blood collect outside of the blood vessels. It is usually caused by haemorrhage or damage to the vessels and is more commonly known as internal bleeding. A common example of haematoma is bruising, which is caused when blood vessels burst and leak out blood. A haematoma may also feel hard to the touch, caused when the body creates a sac around the area to prevent bleeding as much as possible. Haematomas may be life threatening if major vessels are severed or damaged, but most of the time, medical treatment can repair the problem.
