Hypertrophic Scar

A hypertrophic scar is a type of scar that forms after the occurrence of an injury. This type of scar commonly presents itself as red or pink and slightly raised above the skin. Unlike keloid scars, a hypertrophic scar will only develop as far as the wound had developed. Most of the time, hypertrophic scars are caused by small wounds and are not hazardous to the body. Keloid scars, however, can continue to grow, and may become tumours. Although these tumours are mostly benign, it is advised that individuals experiencing this type of scarring see a doctor to have them surgically removed.
