Keloid Scar

A keloid scar is a type of scar that can result in an overgrowth of tissue, sometimes developing into a tumour, as a result of an injury. Keloid scars are benign, but may be itchy or painful, and may change in size or shape over time. Although these scars may be removed surgically, there is a fifty percent chance that the resulting scar will also become a keloid. The scars usually grow due to an overabundance of collagen in the skin, which continues to grow, creating the tumour like scars on the body. A keloid scar may grow in any region of the body that has been damaged or scarred.
