Lesion

A lesion is the word that is used to define any abnormal tissue within an organism. A lesion can be caused by damage to a tissue. Cancerous tumours are an example of a lesion, and the tissue that becomes damaged because of the tumour is a lesion too. Electrocution or chemical damage to the skin or other tissues may also cause lesions. Lesions can also be caused by certain diseases or illnesses, such as chickenpox, which leaves scars on the body. With cancerous lesions, doctors must classify them as benign, or non fatal, or malignant, which may cause death or severe harm.
