Phenol

Phenol is a chemical substance that is often used in resins and other synthetic fibers. In high concentrations this substance is dangerous; however, the substance is sometimes used in medicines such as throat lozenges or mouthwashes. When exposed to Phenol, an individual may experience headaches or irritation of the skin or eyes. Prolonged exposure to this chemical can result in liver damage or burns. It is advised that individuals do not expose themselves to this substance in high doses and to be extremely careful when doing so.  Phenol can be found in decaying organic matter such as rotting vegetables or coal.
