Port Wine Stain
A port wine stain is the term given to a specific birthmark that has a dark red appearance, similar to port wine. The most common area that a port wine stain may occur is on the face; however, other areas of the body may also be affected. At birth the stains may be of a lighter pink colour, and become darker as the individual ages. Many different treatments have been tested to reduce the appearance of these stains, and the most effective has been the use of laser treatment, due to the fact that the lasers simply destroy the capillaries that are damaged.
