Saline

Saline is a type of medicine that consists of a sterilised solution of salt in water. It can be used for infusions, cleaning contact lenses, and nasal irrigation. Saline is commonly used in intravenous infusions for patients suffering from severe diarrhea due to dehydration. A constant source of saline is injected directly into the vein, and thus into the bloodflow, in order to hydrate the patient through surgery or other procedures. The general dose for an adult is between 1.5 and 3 liters and is usually balanced with a small amount of glucose to maintain a safe level of osmolality.
