A. Hi there. It sounds like you’re looking to lose weight around the tummy region, but a tummy tuck only addresses excess skin around the area. Your best option is to lose weight and if you are unable to do this, then you may benefit from seeing someone about weight loss techniques (including surgery such as gastric bands, etc). Liposuction is also a method but is best reserved for stubborn areas of fat which are resistant to diet and exercise.

A. A tummy tuck of some kind would definitely address your excess skin but I would have reservation about doing such an operation unless you have finished you family. Q. I know that there are risks involved with any surgery. I am interested in particular with the the risks associated with getting tummy tuck surgery? The main concern is my age as I have recently turned 54. Would this be an issue at my age?

Q. Are you aware if the NHS perform tummy tucks after severe weight loss. I have a large amount of hanging skin nand after shedding around 6 stone and have been left with sagging skin all around my mid drift. I will find it treally hard to affors an operation priviatly although I have no idea how much it costs? A. Hi there. For NHS surgery, you need to be referred by your GP and your Body Mass Index (BMI) needs to be less than a certain amount, and you need to have a psychological assessment. Surgery privately costs around £5000 and if you would like to see me for a consultation there is a consultation fee as well. Q. In you opinion is it normal to still suffer swelling, numbness and soreness 9 months after a tummy tuck? I have spoken to my surgeon and he said a small amount of pain is normal after this amount of time. Is beginning to concern me that its never going to go away. Should I be concerned?
A. Difficult to comment really. Swelling and numbness absolutely but most discomfort should have subsided by now. Nature is a wonderful thing and your surgeon is right that most things just settle over time.
