I see that you have written that you do not do calf implants as they need to be removed very often

Q. Dear Dr Banwell, I see that you have written that you do not do calf implants as they need to be removed very often. Please could you direct me to some literature about this and the relevant risks before I pursue this option? I have charcot marie toothe and am desperate to improve the appearance of my skinny legs but dont want to go through the ordeal and expense of surgery if there is a high risk of it failing or causing damage to my muscles or nerves? Many thanks I really do appreciate your advice and honesty!! Kind regards

A. Hi Gail I am sure you will find a surgeon who is prepared to insert calf implants in you. All I am saying is that there is a high chance of problems post-op mainly regarding infection, implant movement and extrusion – damage to muscles and nerves is less common good luck!

I have a mild pectus excavatum i been to 3 diff drs who have bascially told me to live with it

Q. I have a mild pectus excavatum i been to 3 diff drs who have bascially told me to live with it i also have completely different boob sizes.. as a result ive had severe depression for 10 years have no confidence and v low self esteem i been told i cudnt have surgery as its considered cosmectic but i have asthma and with this as well i get very tightchested often i really really want this done ..is there any hope at all??

A. Hi there Pectus excavatum may be mild or severe. The main treatment (in females) involves ‘disguising’ the contour irregularity by enlarging the breasts and in your case you may need a differential breast augmentation. This would not be covered on the NHS and I am afraid you would have to see me privately to discuss the way forward Please do contact the office on 0845 2600 261 or email help@paulebanwell.com cheerio Paul Banwell www.paulebanwell.com

I had a consultation recently and the surgeon suggested putting the implants over the muscle but im afraid they will sag quicker

Q. Im having a breast lift with implants this year at some stage. I had a consultation recently and the surgeon suggested putting the implants over the muscle but im afraid they will sag quicker. Is the technique of under and over the muscle dependent on every patient?

A. Hi there  Thank you for your enquiry. The decision for pocket placement in augmentation mastopexy will depend on a number of things including the amount of breast tissue, build of the patient, the implant size chosen and patient desires This needs to be assessed individually for every patient very carefully. I could not comment without examining you but I consult in Tunbridge Wells, East Grinstead, Brighton and Worthing and would be happy to see you to discuss everything. Although I have had surgery before (arm lift), I had very little pain or discomfort during recovery

Q. Although I have had surgery before (arm lift), I had very little pain or discomfort during recovery. I am now planning to have a bilateral thigh lift and while researching the procedure I have learnt this is a far more painful recovery process. Is this correct?

A. absolutely!!! The main problem with this operation is the time for recovery and potential wound healing problems Despite these I have many very happy patients following thigh lifting surgery.
