I am looking to have my jaw reshaped as the bottom of it is very flat and square

Q. hi. I am looking to have my jaw reshaped as the bottom of it is very flat and square is there anyway that it can be shaped so there is more of an angle to my jaw? please reply asap thankyou

A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, it is possible to reshape the shape of your jaw and this surgery is normally performed by maxillo-facial surgeon. I think it might be best to have a look on the web for a maxillo-facial surgeon specializes in this area in your region. Alternatively, you could schedule a consultation with your GP and discuss this with them and they will likely to know a surgeon in the region who specializes in the region. Many thanks for your enquiry. Best wishes yours sincerely, Adrian RichardsPlastic and Cosmetic SurgeonSurgical Director of Aurora Clinics

How do I choose the best surgeon for a mini jaw lift

Q. How do I choose the best surgeon for a mini jaw lift? What happens if things go wrong? Is it true that if a particular facial nerve is severed, it is irreversible and leads to a lop sided face?

A. Do you mean a mini face lift/ neck lift or a jaw shortening procedure?  In face lifts nerve injury can occur but this usually recovers in 3 months.

I have been having orthodontic treatment for the past 18 months and 3 months ago had a bi maxillary osteotmoy

Q. Hi, I have been having orthodontic treatment for the past 18 months and 3 months ago had a bi maxillary osteotmoy to correct my 10-11mm overbite, i also had a very gummy smile and my chin wasnt central. My surgeon said everything went really well but since my jaw has relapsed and i now have a 3-4mm overbite, my surgeon is refusing to do a 2nd operation as he doesnt consider me `ugly’ and he says the risk are very high with restricting the blood supply to my upper jaw. I am just very confused as to what to do now, the whole point in my starting this treatment was to get rid of my overbite. Are the risk of a second operation very high?? Is there any other way to correct my overbite??

A. This is something you need to discuss with a maxillofacial surgeon or orthodontic surgeon. This forum deals with plastic surgery and not orthognatic surgery. Sorry I cant give you advice

I am a 33 year old woman and have been uncomfortable with the prominance of my chin since being a teenager

Q. I am a 33 year old woman and have been uncomfortable with the prominance of my chin since being a teenager. In particular I feel that the depth of my chin gives my face a masculine look and as I am also very tall this is something I would like to get reduced. Please send me some information if this would be possible?

A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, it sounds like it would certainly be possible to reduce the prominence of your chin and this would normally be performed either by reducing the size of your chin or setting your jaw back slightly. This form of surgery is normally performed by maxillo-facial surgeon who specialize in the bony skeleton of the face. If you feel you would like to schedule a consultation to discuss the best way forward for you I think it would be worthwhile phoning your local private hospital and schedule a consultation with a maxillo-facial surgeon there. Many thanks for your enquiry, I do wish you the best of luck if you do decide to proceed with it. Best Wishes, Yours sincerely Adrian Richards Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Consultant, Aurora Clinics

I have a big chin but my jaw is wonky and goes off to one side can it be fixed how much will it cost

Q. I have a big chin but my jaw is wonky and goes off to one side can it be fixed how much will it cost

A. I think you would benefit from an examination including analysis of your bite and x rays of the jaw. This will determine if you need orthodontics first , a maxillofacial analysis (Cephalometrogram) orthognathic surgery ( resetting the jaw in a better position or bringing the upper jaw forward to match the lower jaw) or whether simple filling techniques using your own body fat to camoflauge the difference will be sufficientLeRoux Fourie
