Q. I have seen a surgeon that says he can perform an inverted nipple correction but only under general anaesthetic – is this case?
A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, I perform inverted nipple corrections under local anesthetic and performed approximately 30 of these per month. I do use general anesthetics sometimes if the patient’s having other procedures such as breast enlargement that almost never for an inverted nipple correction procedure. Most of the patients find the procedure quite comfortable and recover very quickly from it. For more information about what’s involved in inverted nipple correction please visit our website http://www.aurora-clinics.co.uk and get the inverted nipple section here you’ll find lots of information about the surgery. Q. I have never had inverted nipples but in the past two months I have notice one nipple becoming inverted – should I be concerned?
A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, if you just noticed your nipples has become inverted in the last couple of months I would suggest that it would be best to have a consultation with your GP. Some inversion of the nipples can signify something going on inside your breast tissue which is certainly be checked. It maybe that your GP would probably want to examine your chest and possibly arrange for scans if he has other concerns. I wish you the best of luck with your GP. Q. I have had inverted nipples for many years and feel really self conscious about them but would like to breast feed any children I have, what do you advise?
A. “Thank you very much for your enquiry. We would generally advise you to use the Niplette suction device initially, whatever grade of nipple inversion is you have as this often does improves matters and avoids the need for surgery, I think it would be worth while purchasing the Niplette and trying this for at least two months before considering surgery. For more information please visit our website at www.aurora-clinics.co.uk where you will find more information on inverted nipple correction and here you can listen to our informational CD on inverted nipples. Q. Hi Dr. Richards, I have inverted nipples (Grade 3) on both breasts. I tried to get them corrected many years ago. The procedure was not only unsuccessful, but left a fair amount of scarring. I think the surgeon was trying to preserve the milk ducts, but they look worse than they did before the procedure was done. I would love to come see you to get the results I have always wanted, but I live in Alberta, Canada. This has been a huge self esteem issue for me my whole life. I don’t know what to do – I’m scared to trust any plastic surgeons after the experience that I had, but I desperately want to get the procedure done again so that I can finally look and feel normal. Can you advise me on what to do? Thank you so much.
A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, it does sounds as if you may benefit from a correction of your inverted nipples but I think it would probably need division of your milk ducts as I do find that surgery particularly for Grade 3 cases which aims to preserve the milk ducts can sometimes not cure the inversion. I’m frightened that there are not many surgeons in Canada that could perform the procedure but we’d be more than happy to give you an opinion as the best way forward for you if you email a picture of your nipples to infoaurora-clinics.co.uk. In the mean time, it might also be worthwhile listening to our free information CD about inverted nipple correction which is available online at http://www.aurora-clinics.co.uk/free-information-cd.html you could access it by copying and pasting this link into your browser. Many thanks for your enquiry, we do look forward to hearing from you in the near future. Best wishes yours sincerely, Adrian Richards Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Surgical Director of Aurora Clinics

Q. Hi, I am 16 and have a third nipple. Its really affecting me, especially my confidence. I dont go swimming, take my top off in public and embarassed around people. I’ve been to my local GP and he said that it cannot be done on the NHS as its for cosmetic reasons, although I tried telling him it was more affecting my mental health. I would like it removed, but I don’t come from a rich family. I want to know, if I could have this ‘operation’, how long would it usually take for me talking to you now, to having it removed, because I want it removed immediately. I stop myself seeing girls because of it. Also, could you offer me a reduced price, because £600 is a lot for me. Thanks Aaron
A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, extra nipples are extremely common and normally occur on the abdomen below the breast tissue. They can vary considerably in size and I’ve reduce a number of them over time. The size does vary considerably however and the bigger the nipple the larger the scar that would need to be removed. Normally however it’s possible to remove the extra nipple under local anesthetics with you awake and leaving a small scar. I hope this information has been useful and if you feel you would like to schedule a consultation or even treatment to have the extra nipple removed please do so by ringing us on 01844-214362. We would also be happy to look at a picture of the extra nipple and give you a more definitive answer as the best treatment for you if you email to us at info@aurora-clinics.co.uk. Q. Hy,im looking to have a breast uplift surgery and inverted nipple correction, iwas wondering if you can provide me with combined cost please.thankyou
A. Hi there Thank you very much for you enquiry Unfortunately I would not perform inverted nipple correction at the same time as uplift surgery because you can potentially compromise the blood supply. I would do this in 2 stages The nipple correction can be done at any time under a local anaeasthetic and the mastopexy as a GA Please do contact the office for further information on 0845 2600 261 or help@paulebanwell.com I look forward to meeting you Cheerio Paul Banwell www.paulebanwell.com

Q. My question is about prominent nipples as I know you specialise in inverted nipples, but I feel my nipples are too long and too wide – is it possible to reduce?
A. Yes it is possible to reduce both the diameter and the height of your nipples and this procedure is normally performed under a local anaesthetic in a similar manner to the way of inverted nipples. We have a special technique to reduce both the diameter and the height of the nipples and we use absorbable stitches which do not need to be removed to repair them. For more information please visit our website at www.aurora-clinics.co.uk where you will find more information on nipple abnormalities. Q. I am not sure which grade inverted nipple I have – how can I work this out?
A. This is a very good question and there are essentially three grades of inverted nipples. Firstly, there is grade one which are nipples are often normally out but do invert occasionally. Grade two nipples are normally inverted but come out for short periods of time before re-inverting. Grade three nipples rarely come out. For more information please visit our website at www.aurora-clinics.co.uk where you will find more information on inverted nipple correction.
