My daughter had both big toenails removed completely a year ago
Q. My apologies if this is the second time you’ve received this e-mail, but I was uncertain if the first had reached you, and am obviously anxious to pursue the issue toenail reconstruction surgery, having seen two previous posts. My daughter had both big toenails removed completely a year ago, due to complications with the original partial avulsion, and has since been left very distressed over the results. Following the first post, we visited our GP, to be referred to a plastic surgeon several weeks ago, who said they couldn’t help, but made a vague suggestion about a particular doctor in Bristol, but we’ve not heard anything since. With the cost of the consultation being a concern, I’d like to ask whether a plastic surgeon specialising in hands would actually be able to carry out the procedure? Furthermore, could you direct me to anyone at your clinic who could perform the surgery? Many thanks for your time, M James.
A. Dear Mrs. James, Thank you very much for your enquiry, toenail reconstruction is a difficult issue and it’s often not possible to get a perfectly formed toenail following this. This is a very specialist area of surgery and I think it will be sensible to schedule a consultation with the plastic surgeon who specializes in hand surgery as the toes in the hands and the feet are very similar. I would do a google search for a hand surgeon in the area and ask your general practitioner to schedule your consultation with them. You are lucky in the Bristol area in that you have a number of very good hand surgeons available to see. I wish you the best of luck if you do decide to proceed with treatment for your daughter. Best wishes yours sincerely, Adrian Richards Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Surgical Director of Aurora Clinics
