I am 22 and have tubular breasts. It affects me emotionally on a daily basis

Q. I am 22 and have tubular breasts. It affects me emotionally on a daily basis; I am not confident, frequently get depressed about my body and I feel that my relationship with my partner is suffering due to the way I view myself. I have keloid tissue which I’m afraid would make my breasts look awful after surgery, although they would still be a lot better than how they look now! Is there such thing as post-op laser treatment for keloid scarring? My areloae are very big and would require resizing. There is also a large discrepancy in the size of my breasts. I imagine the surgery would be quite extensive leading to a lot of scarring. Also, would this type of corrective surgery mean I wouldn’t be able to breast-feed? I appreciate your time and look forward to a response.

A. Hi there. Sorry to hear about the problems you’re having with the tubular breasts. The commonest way of fixing these is to uplift and reduce the breasts and the areolae so that they’re as symmetrical as possible and then put in the same size of breast implant to make things fuller. If you suffer from keloid scarring then this is something that can happen around the breast scars, but we do have treatments that can help with abnormal scars. Sometimes keloids and hypertrophic scars never go away completely, but the creams and injections we have can improve them. I can show you some scars of women who have had uplifts and implants and you can see what you think about these. You’d be welcome to make an appointment to come and see me and we can discuss how we can improve things for you. If you’re interested in any more information please do call my clinic on 0141-552 0828.

I had implants inserted three years ago which was done abroad and they probably look worse now than they did in the first place

Q. I have tuberous breasts. I had implants inserted three years ago which was done abroad and they probably look worse now than they did in the first place. I am finding it difficult to find a surgeon in the UK who is really familiar with this procedure. Can you tell me if you treat tuberous breasts.

A. Thank you for your inquiry.   Yes indeed, I have carried out treatment for tuberous breasts and the associated asymmetry.   In some instances, a combination of procedures may be necessary to achieve both short and long term improvement and symmetry.   I would be happy to see you in consultation and discuss the current situation and options for change
