Could I have the face lift done without full anasthesia?

Q. Could I have the face lift done without full anasthesia? I have high blood pressure, currently controlled by drugs. Also would be interested in neck lift.

A. Thank you for your enquiry. Whilst short scar facelift surgery is more adapted to local anaesthetic with intravenous sedation, I would be reluctant to do the neck contouring without a general anaesthetic.  This is primarily because I use a technique which involves more extensive contouring of the neck and I don’t think it is well suited for local anaesthesia and sedation. Please bear in mind however that the risk of local anaesthetic and sedation is reported by anaesthetists in the US to be twice as high as the risk of a general anaesthetic.
