Does your clinic offer breast augmentation under local aesthetic?
Q. Does your clinic offer breast augmentation under local aesthetic i.e. Lidocaine or is it possible to have a nerve block?
A. We find that surgery for breast implants is quite painful under local anaesthetic, so I don’t do this. I find I can get a better final result with a general anaesthetic, and the anaesthetist that works with me is very skilled, as a consultant in plastic surgery anaesthesia in the NHS as well as in the private hospitals. A nerve block is certainly possible, but you do run the risk of piercing the lungs just because of the positions of the nerves that need to be blocked.
