How permanent is hair transplantation?

Q. How permanent is hair transplantation? Will the hormones that caused the balding in the first place cause the transplanted hair to thin and die as well? I have inherited male-pattern baldness and would be very interested in having a hair transplant if the results are relatively permanent.

A. Hi there- Thanks for the question. The answer is that the transplanted hair should last the distance and the results are permanent. But the key factor is that hair loss is progressive and a transplant would not alter the course of your pattern. Hence we need to counsel you about future hair loss, ways of preventing it and planning your surgery in a way that addresses any future loss.
