I am planning on trying for a baby within the next few months and was wondering if I had botox

Q. Dear Mr Richards, I am planning on trying for a baby within the next few months and was wondering if I had botox in two facial areas 2-3 months prior to conceiving, would there be any risk to the foetus? There is a lot of information regarding botox during pregnancy but not prior to. Many thanks

A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, if you are actively trying for a baby at the moment it is generally best not to have a botox treatment. The reason for this is botox is not licensed in pregnancy and although it has been used without the problem in people who have been found to be pregnant it is not recommended during this time.   I think it’s very unlikely would cause any problems to your child however I think it would be safest to avoid botox during this period.   Likewise, following your birth of your child if you are breastfeeding it will be best not to perform botox during that time.   Many thanks for your enquiry, I do wish you the best of luck if you do become pregnant.   Best wishes yours sincerely,   Adrian Richards Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Surgical Director of Aurora Clinics
