I have been reading the info on this site about hair transplants using donor hair taken from my head

Q. I have been reading the info on this site about Hair transplants using Donor hair taken from my head. It says the patient has to be under anaesthetic for 6 hours. Once you have this operation is that it or are there several sittings required. Regards Ben

A. The anesthetic is a local anesthetic and does not have any lasting effects – it is similar to having an injection from the dentist.  The procedure is painless with this and should not be uncomfortable.  The length of time depends on the number of hair to be transplanted, and also wht can be achieved I can do up to maximimum on average about 3 to 3,500 a day so for larger procedure it may require more than one sitting depending on the number required for a procedure of say 6,000 I would do this over a two day period – two days is normally the maximum that I would do at a time.  Once the hair is transplanted it will grow and unless further density is required and remember that a hair transplant will not slow down or stop hair loss it replaces hair that is lost so depending on your stage of hair loss you may require further transplants at a later stage.  I usually plan a patients procedures with a 10 year view on their hair loss so that if they require further procedures that there is enough donor site available and will discuss this with the patient.
