I have had gastric band fitted but left with lots of loose hanging skin

Q. I am 34 year old male and have had gastric band fitted and lost 12 stone however i have been left with lots of loose hanging skin which i did expect however i did not expect to have so much on my chest. They look like a woman’s who have breast fed 5 kids. Can you remove all the skin that is on my chest and where would the scars go?

A. For removal of excess skin on the chest the scars would typically be in the crease under the breast, and measure approximately 15 cm can be longer depending on your height and chest circumference.  Depending on the characteristics of the breast and the amount of reduction, the nipple maybe moved upwards or a lifted off completely and replaced as a graft.Alternatives include liposuction using radio frequency assisted technique (bodytite) to generate a degree of tightening to the skin.  If the laxity is very significant, you would only see an improvement from the liposuction, but may want to enhance the result using pectoral implants, and therefore stretch the skin in the area by the additional volume.  I do not do pectoral implants surgery, so my knowledge on this matter is rather limited, but the principle is similar to the breast uplift procedure were tightening the skin is sometimes associated with increased volume in the breast. If you want to explore this option, you would probably need to separate the interventions, and start with the liposuction.
