I want to know if liposuction can be used to get rid of gynecomastia

Q. I want to know if liposuction can be used to get rid of gynecomastia. No matter how much I work out or how underweight I try to stay, I can’t get rid of this problem. Can this problem be fixed with liposuction?

A. Thank you for your inquiry.   Liposelection can be an excellent tool for correction of gynecomastia. The technique I would favor is the radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (Bodytite), although I have found the VASER liposelection also useful, and there are reports about using the laser assisted liposuction to good effect.    The main issues related to using just liposuction are : – The ability of the skin to tighten up, and in severe cases of gynecomastia formal skin excision is necessary (in particular after the age of 40-50) – The presence of firm breast tissue, which does not respond completely to liposuction and may require also open excision   My approach is to start with liposuction, and if at the end of surgery it appears that there is a nugget of firm breast tissue, to make an incision within the confines of the areola, remove some of it. The aim of the surgery remains to contour the chest rather than remove all the breast tissue.
