If I have a baby after having had breast reduction surgery, will there be any complications in breast feeding?

Q. If I have a baby after having had breast reduction surgery, will there be any complications in breast feeding or will that no longer be possible because of the breast reduction surgery or could I hurt myself by trying to breast feed after having had breast reduction surgery? I not starting a family for 5-10 years bit wanted to weight everything up. Please get back to me many thanks

A. Thank you for your email. Breast reduction involves cutting through the milk producing glands and milk transmitting ducts. We inform our patients during the initial consultation that the operation may affect breast feeding. However there is enough evidence in the literature that 50 % of women were able to breast feed following the breast reduction operation. It also depends upon the technique used for the operation. I have following suggestions for you: 1) Please send me good quality photos for my initial comments. 2) You may wish to arrange a detailed consultation to allow me to examine you and give my opinion. 3) Please visit our website: www.vadodariaplasticsurgery.com (section of breast surgery, photo gallery and price guide) to allow you to develop better insight into the procedure. With very best wishes,
