Usually, I ask the hospital to send you a quote for the procedure after a consultation if you’re keen to go ahead once we talk about what we can do for you and what the implications of surgery are. Hiya i have terrible bingo wings that flap whenever i raise my arms and wanted to know if i could see before and after pictures of the arm lift procedure so i could see what the scars are like and if it would be better than what they are like at the minute. After an arm lift would i be able to wear short sleeves again or would scars be very visible?

A. Thank you for your enquiry. I have no doubt that if you look for images of scars from arm lift surgery on the Internet you will be able to find.  They are typically placed on the inner aspect of the arms, and the lengths of the scar depends on how significant the skin laxity is. A combination treatment of radio-frequency assisted liposuction (Bodytite) with the arm lift procedure may be able to provide a degree of tightening to the arm tissues, and allow for a shorter scar. If the scar runs from the elbow to the armpit, there will be some visibility if you wear short sleeves.

Q. I am considering having an arm lift to get rid of my bingo wings which i have had for many years now and are just getting worse. Can you tell me where the scars will be located after an arm lift and will they be very noticeable?

A. It is very much depends on how significant the skin laxity is.  The most extensive scars go from the inside of the elbow to the appeared on the inner aspect of the arm, and they are usually relatively discreet. If the laxity is moderate, it is possible to use shorter scars, which extent of the mid -arm on the inside of the arm, and using radio-frequency assisted liposuction (Bodytite), it is possible to generate some compensatory tightening. The most limited scars for an arm lift are placed just in the axilla (armpit), but the procedure has more limited impact and is probably not what you are thinking of in terms of degree of correction.

Q. I would be interested in arm lift, although this is not so pressing, but perhaps you could tell me if your specialist in this procedure or if you know of somebody who is?

A. I am not sure that there is someone in the UK who could call themselves a specialist in arm lift surgery, since the number of procedures of this type carried out on a yearly basis is relatively low. This does not mean that the quality of the results is poor, as arm lift surgery lends itself to good results with current techniques. The intervention typically involves liposuction to the inner aspect and back of the arm, and removal of some of the excess skin. I do perform this type of surgery either in relation to ageing of the arms or significant weight loss, and would be happy to discuss your concerns if you wish.
