Q. I have some very bad stretch marks on my body as well as wrinkles and saggy skin under my belly button. While a full tummy tuck may correct most of my concerns with the saggy skin but I’m not sure I could live with such a large scar on my body. How big is the scar likely to be please?
A. Hello there. thanks for your question. it could be that you require a mini-tummy tuck or a full tummy tuck but I would need to see you in person to make this decision. In terms of the scar, this is usually a low scar stretching from hip to hip. In actual fact, whilst this sounds like quite a big scar, patients do not seem overly concerned and accept this in exchange for correcting the excess or sagging skin. I usually match it to your underwear to make it as least visible as possible. Q. I want to do laser skin resurfacing because i have really bad stretch marks on my thighs, but I am only 15 yrs old. And hoping I could do it. I would also like to know the price and all the additional information you can provide including any treatments that doesent involve actual surgery because I feel I am too young for this option at this time.
A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, unfortunately laser resurfacing is often not very effective for stretch marks on the thighs. A better treatment in my experience is the derma roller treatment. This works by stimulating the skin and to regenerate reducing the stretch marks. Q. Hello. I have had two children and put on 3 stone which I’ve now lost that weight but have been left with really bad stretch marks that are red and angry i am hoping a tummy tuck will get rid of this.
A. The tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is able to clear the stretch marks that are situated between the belly button (umbilicus) and the suprapubic area, in particular in the central abdomen.This is because with a tummy tuck typically there is removal of the skin and fatty tissue between the belly button and the pubis, with an elliptical shape. Some women have red and therefore more visible stretch marks but with a small area of distribution, and in some women the distribution is wider and can be also above the belly button. In that case, only part of the stretch marks will be removed, but the remainder usually look better when the skin is more stretched.In some instances, when the skin elasticity has become significantly poorer after pregnancy, an inverted T abdominoplasty may be considered which involves also a midline vertical scar and will remove more of the stretch marks. Unfortunately, this would also leave a segment of scar that would be visible in a swimsuit, and is more commonly reserved for massive weight loss patients.
