I have had botox on several occasions however the last time it did not work despite a full top up

Q. I have had botox on several occasions however the last time it did not work despite a full top up. My face became very swollen which lasted a couple of days. Does this mean that I have developed antibodies and if so is there an alternative procedure. I have heard that in these cases, a Toxin B can be used?

A. Thank you for your email I think it is very unlikely that you have devoloped anti-bodies to Botox A- was there anything different about your last treatment?  Was it given by the same person?  Have you asked if they used the same type and concentration of Botox? If you do develop antibodies to Botox A the only effect usually is that the Botox does not work as well.  In my experience antibody formation is very rare. I hope this helps With best wishes Adrian Richards Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Surgical Director of Aurora-Clinics.co.uk
