Q. What is there treatment / surgery wise that can be done about the large amounts of excess skin that I seem to have on my arms as i have aged? The skin really hangs down rather badly and I feel terrible and although i am 62 and not wanting a bikini body it would be nice to wear shorter tops and show my body off a bit more. When i had my breast reduction done a few years ago it was one of the best thing that ever happened to me, so now I am considering getting my arms done. How big will the scar be and long is recovery?
A. Thank you for your enquiry. From what you describe I think you would be suitable for a brachioplasty procedure. In this operation the excess skin in the area is removed. For further information about this procedure please visit our website aurora-clinics.co.uk. In the video section you will see descriptions of the procedure and a video of my performing surgery. To discuss if this treatment would be suitable for you please schedule and appointment by ringing my office on 01844 214362. Thank you again for your enquiry- I look forward to seeing you in person in the near future. With best wishes Adrian Richards Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Surgical Director of Aurora-clinics.co.uk

Q. I am 23 and I have always hated my arms. They are very disproportionate, and flabby on the upper part. I was thinking of getting an arm lift, liposuction or both. Which is more suitable for me? Or is there another procedure that could take care of this. I would like to be left with as little scarring as possible.
A. Thank you for your email. The ‘flabby’ arm could be because of excess deposition of fat and/or lose skin. The quality of skin at the age of 23 years is likely to be good in terms of elasticity unless you have significant weight loss. Laserlipolysis assisted with liposuction/aspiration is a recognised method in such cases. Arm reduction/ Brachioplasty is generally considered in matured age group in presence of lose skin with compromised elasticity. I would be happy to give my opinion following a detailed consultation. In the mean time you ma wish to send me good quality photos for my initial comments. Please clarify about recent weight loss if any along with the photos. May I suggest you to go through the section of arm lift on our web site to allow you to develop better insight? Please do no hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. With best wishes,

Q. I do not like the way my arms look with too much loose wrinkly skin and I am considering having an arm lift done. However, I am worried about doing things and getting up and about after the surgery. Will I be able to do any lifting, or driving about and looking after myself after the surgery? I do not have a partner and I live alone and have a disabled son who needs my help. We do have other help that can come in while i recover but this adds to the expense. Kind Regards
A. Thank you for your email. I have following suggestions to help you, 1) Please send me good quality photos for my initial comments. 2) It would be ideal to arrange a detailed consultation so that I can assess your arms and give you my opinion. There are two ways to tighten skin of upper arms: 1) Laser Assisted Liposuction/ SmartLipo 2) Upper arm reduction- Brachioplasty I perform laserlipolysis as a day case. It is a patient friendly procedure with minimal down time and does not restrict your daily activities. It is useful for tightening mild to moderate lose skin of upper arm. It does not give good result if upper arm skin is significantly loose. It involves minimal scarring. The second procedure is known as Upper arm reduction assisted with liposuction: I perform this procedure under local anaesthetic and sedation as a day case. It involves liposuction and removal of lose skin. It involves scarring in the armpit or on the inner aspect of back of upper arm. May I suggest you to go through the section of liposuction and upper arm reduction including the photo gallery of my web site: www.vadodariaplasticsurgery.com to allow you to develop better in sight. Q. Hi I am looking at an arm lift from my armpit to my elbow after having lost a lot of excess weight over a period of time I have been left with “bingo wings”. These affect my self confidence dramatically and never wear short sleeved tops but wanted to look good for summer? Is this possible?
A. Thank you for your enquiry. It sounds as if you would benefit for a procedure known as a brachioplasty or an arm lift procedure. In this procedure the skin from your skin from your inner arms is removed and tightened leaving a scar along the inner aspect of the arm. I tend to do this in an L shaped with a transverse scar along in the armput as this tightens the skin up from front to back and also lifts it up the arm pit.Generally this procedure works very well although it does leave a scar along the inner aspect of the arms. If you are considering going ahead with this procedure I think it would be worthwhile contacting one of our patient advisors on 08707 606555 to discuss your options.

Q. What can be done about the large amount of loose skin i have on my arms. The skin really hangs down and they look terrible i have to wear long tops even on holiday and is embarrassing. I had a breast reduction done a few years ago and was one of the best things i ever did so am thinking now why not get my arms done. How big is the scar and how much does it cost to get done?
A. Brachioplasty or arm-lift surgery is relatively common in particular after significant weight-loss but also in relation to ageing and laxity of the skin in the upper arm.The scars vary depending on the amount of laxity, and this can be clarified in a consultation. They can extend from the elbow to the armpit, or from the armpit to mid-arm, on the inside of the upper arm. There is also a version of brachioplasty that is performed entirely with the scar in the armpit but would typically be suitable for a relatively minor laxity of the inner arm skin.My approach would be to evaluate whether the radiofrequency assisted liposuction (Bodytite) can contribute the degree of tightening as well as volume reduction and try and minimise the scars for contouring the arm.The treatment costs are in the area of £4500 to £5,000, and the operation usually takes place under general anaesthetic as a day case.
