Q. Im enquiring about the life span about breast implants for breast augmentation. How long can I expect the implants to last after having surgery before they will require replacing and does this vary with the type of implant used? What type of implants do you use in your surgey please?

A. Hi there. I usually use one of two breast implants – Nagor Impleo or Natrelle Inspira. If I’m using teardrop shaped implants I use Natrelle ones. Implants can last a lifetime, but sometimes they need replacing. These implants don’t need replacing unless there’s something wrong. Hope that helps

Q. I work out everyday and I am hoping to get breast implants soon. I know it will be hard to run or do anything to heavy but can I do any exercise at all? I heard getting the blood rushing isn’t good for healing. Can you offer any advice?

A. Hi there. I usually say to my more active patients that they can go cycling – either on the streets or in the gym at a spin class for example. So, it’s certainly possible to exercise, but it can be a little sore for a few weeks when exercising after a breast augmentation procedure. If we use implants either partially or wholly under the pectoralis major muscle then the soreness can be prolonged a little. Excess blood flow to the muscles is actually good for healing!

Q. I have had breast implants for 11 years and I have recently developed a large rash under my left breast, it hurts and I feels like pockets of air around the area. One doctor told me to replace them every 10 years and another told me you never have to replace them. Could I have your thoughs on this matter please?

A. It really depends on the type of implant you have. Mentor and Allergan implants should not have to be repaced. PIP implants are causing problems and the MHRA has suggested a clinical examnation and possible replacement. Q. I had breast enlargement surgery several years ago but over time feel they are slightly too large. Is there any way to reduce the size of my breasts without fully removing the implants?

Reducing the size of your implants is possible however and is relatively simple to perform. Q. I want to get some augmentation work done on my breasts. I am happy with the current size but feel there shape and firmness could be improved. I also want to try and deal with some cellulite on my rear at the sametime and hoped I would be able to save some money if I were to have but treatments at the same time…if this was possible of course. I have done a little research on celluite and I realise that it cannot be shifted completely but any improvement would be a bonus for me. Thanks for your time

A. hi there. the two treatments are different – cellulite is treated with endermologie which is £45 a treatment and breast implants are usually £2999. Q. I already have good sized boobs. Right now I am between a 34b and about 5’4. I want breast augmentation not because i think i need them or even want to be bigger, i just really love the shape and look of breasts with implants. I am confused whether or not to get them because I dont want to look top heavy but I think this would be a good idea for me.

A. Breast implants are not without complications and you have to realise that you would probably have to have additional breast surgery ar some time in your life. Arrange an appointment with an accredited plastic surgeon near you (see www.baaps.org) and have a open discussion. Some cosmetic clinics will do you regardless if you need the operation or not. Q. I wanted to ask a question about my breast implants which I had put in 4 years ago. I currently have Allergan soft touch, TRF 385 implants which I dont find to be as soft I thought they would be and would like to know if there is anything better currently available? Thank you

A. Thank you for your enquiry.   It may well be that your current breast texture is a reflection of the implant texture as well as a degree of capsular contracture.   It would be necessary to evaluate the situation in a consultation in order to be able to guide you towards some options for improvement.
