Q. I underwent ear surgery on my left ear in 2008. The scarring from the operation is still quite prominent unslightly considering surgery was over two years ago. Is this normal and is there anything else I can try? Thank you

Q. Im looking at having ear surgery to correct my pointy ears which I have pretty much hated since I was a little boy. I dont have any problems with the idea of having surgery but I am a little worried about the recovery. I sleep badly as it is and cannot sleep on my back. Im wanted to know how long is the general recovery before I will be able to sleep normally resting on the side of my head? Any information would be very helpful. Thanks

A. the recovery after ear surgery is that you have a head bandage on for a few days and the ears are mildly tender thereafter. Most people take pain killers for a week or so. There’s bruising for a couple of weeks and the swelling reduces as the weeks go by too

Q. Im not sure if you have many people asking about this but my ears are very flat and I would like to taken out slightly so they are more prominent. Can this be done?

Q. I have got huge ears that pop out and sometimes I get really depressed and embarrased. I was wondering if you could give me a price for this Otoplasty procedure to make my ears smaller or pulled back or maybe even both. This might be a stupid question but I live in Edinburgh, Scotland so I wouldn’t have to travel across the UK to get the surgery would I? Your advice will be very much appreciated, thanks.

Q. My ears used to stick out as a kid and I had a son whose ears dont stick out but, now I am pregnant with my daughter what are the chances that her ears will stick out?

Generally prominent ears can follow in families and interestingly skips generations with grand parents being affected but not their children but their grandchildren. I think it’s very difficult to say whether your daughters ears will stick out but if when she is born and they are prominent, it is worth discussing this with a plastic surgeon in the first couple of days, studies have shown if with special spleens this can be held back into position when they’re still very young and this will hold them back permanently.
