Q. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2004 which worked excellently but I now have ALOT of loose skin around my belly and I would like to have the skin removed. Its really frustrating because although I am now what I would call an acceptable sixe and weight I still sweat in the area which causes skin irritation. Would a trummy tuck be able to help my situation?

Q. I have lost a lot of weight since my gastric bypass surgery over a year ago. I now have a lot of excess skin I would like removed. I am considering the Vaser liposuction or Bodytite and wondered if you offer either of these treatments and your thoughts on which is better?

A. Thank you for your email. Please give me some more details about your current weight, height and your recent weight loss. Liposuction techniques like Vaser (Ultrasound assisted), Smartlipo (Laser assisted) and Bodytite (Radiofrequency assisted) may tighten skin to some extent. We need to assess the amount of excess lose skin you have particularly following gastric bypass surgery. Q. i had gastric bypass surgery and i hope next year or as soon as i reach my healthy BMI i am sure i will need a Body Lift. I work in Saudi Arabia and only come to the UK on vacation, so if i require surgery i would need to see the surgeon have surgery within 2weeks or would i need longer to recover? Q. I had gastric bypass surgery over year ago and now have a lot of loose and sagging skin in my stomach area. I am on a daily exercise routine which includes ab crunches and sit ups, but I have not been able to tighten this unsightly skin. My doctor said that I might want to consult a plastic surgeon about having a tummy tuck. Is this a very intense procedure? I am wandering how much pain is involved and how extended the time of recovery is.

A. Thank you for your enquiry Unfortunately exercising your tummy muscles will not help tighten up the skin of your tummy.     Your doctor is right that the only way to remove this skin is with a tummy tuck operation.   With the Full Tummy Tuck, the abdominal skin is pulled far downward that it is needed to reposition the belly button to keep it in the center. This procedure results in a circular scar around the belly button and a dramatic improvement in the contour and shape and the abdomen. With this procedure, it is also possible to tighten the muscles of the upper and lower abdomen.  With a Mini Tummy Tuck, it is a smaller surgical procedure designed to improve the contour and shape of the lower abdomen, just below the bellow button.
