Q. I have gynaecomastia (so my doctor says) im 16 and i also have a bit of excess fat and skin i was wondering if you could tell me if i should go for the surgery? I dont like my physical appierance I have tryed losing it myself but I dont seem to ever get anywhere.

A. Hi there. If you’re under 18, then you need a GP referral to a plastic surgeon, either on the NHS or privately at your local private hospital. You should come with one of your parents to the appointments. Hope this helps

Q. My 17 year old son has gynaecomastia in his right breast. He would like this removed as soon as possible. Which procedure would be best option; how soon could it be done and how much does it cost?

A. Thank you for your inquiry.   To begin with, I would advise an endocrinology assessment, to establish whether there is an identifiable cause. Q. I have previoulsy used anabolic steroids to assist me in weight training and stopped using them around 6 months ago.I have recently begun using a testosterone based non steroid supplement instead.I have noticed the areas around my nipples swelling and have what appearsd to be breast growing. Do you think surgery is an option?

A. Thank you for your inquiry. Using hormonal supplements for weight training and muscle development is one of the more common causes of gynaecomastia. Unfortunately, the problem will also recur in some people after treatment. The also need to be mindful of the fact that for your health, using hormones without medical guidance and supervision can be a source of significant problems. Surgery is indeed an option and the extent of the treatment depends on the severity of the problem. In most instances, liposuction can contour in the area to a satisfactory degree, and I would favour the radiofrequency assisted technique (Bodytite) for the purpose.

Q. My gynaecomastia is not very bad but i have had it for 10 years, how much will it cost roughly? i need to have it done as less expensive as possible.

A. If gynaecomastia is because of deposition of excess fat on the front of the chest wall then only liposuction is required. The total cost is from £3000/. If gynaecomastia is because of deposition of fatty and non-fatty tissue then it may require liposuction assisted open excision. In such cases, the total cost ranges from £3500/. Q. I have been teased about my man breasts all of my life, for as long as I can remember. I am considering liposuction and I curious about the size and placement of scars on my body, although I feel that any scar would probably be better than having man boobs.

A. Thank you for your email. Excess deposition of tissue on the front of the chest wall in a man is called gynaecomastia. It could be because of deposition of fat, non-fatty tissue or combination of both. If it is predominantly because of fat deposition then liposuction is a recognised method to improve the condition. It leaves behind 3 to 4 small scars of 3 to 4 mm in size. The procedure is done under general anesthetic as a day case procedure. I can give my opinion following a detailed consultation. Q. I was diagnosed with gynaecomastia 8 years ago. Although a qualified physician performed the first operation, it did not make a noticeable difference. The results of the second operation were noticeable but uneven. I have had many painful complications with scar tissue and unknown lumps under the skin from the second surgery, with no options for pain relief. I have tried OTC medications, but nothing helps. I understand that these are unusual side effects, but what causes them? Is there anything that can be done to remove the breasts, and fix the other problems?

A. Thank you for your requiring.   Correcting the residual gynaecomastia tissue, further surgery seems inevitable.   In terms of the pain, it is more often the intervention of a pain specialist that will be able to help solve the problem. Because the cause is relatively complex, they would be the best person to evaluate the pain and review more clarity of the mechanisms for developing.
