Q. How old must you be to undertake nose correction surgery? How much does it cost roughly? Where is the nearest surgery to me as I live in Lightwater, Surrey?

A. Thank you for your inquiry.   I generally advise delaying rhinoplasty surgery until after the age of 18, when the facial shape is relatively settled.   With regards to nearest surgery, I only practice in central London. Q. I am a 22 year old female. About 2 years ago I had open rhinoplasty surgery at Harley Street which I am not happy with. If anything I think I am more self conscious now! Is it possible to make subtle amendments, (particularly correcting the tip of the nose which point up and my nostrils looked flared? Please let me know what experience you have of secondary rhinoplasty?

A. Thank you for your inquiry.   Approximately 30% of the rhinoplasty surgery that I do  represents secondary or tertiary procedures.   It is indeed possible to operate discrete changes to the nose, and the best way to evaluate the degree of change or correction that you want to achieve, is to use a computer stimulation in 2-D or 3-D.  Even so however, the result of the surgery will not be identical to the simulated image.

Q. If I have a nose correction surgery to get rid of a bump on my nose am I putting myself at risk since the nose is part of the upper respiratory system and the operation just might cut off my breathing while it is being performed? I have heard stories of people being unable to breathe so wanted to ask what is risk if this happening? Many thanks

A. Thank you for your enquiry. The risk of problems with breathing through the nose exists in the context of rhinoplasty.  It is fortunately very low, and more likely to happen if very large reductions take place, or when there are pre-existing nasal airway problems.
