Q. Im interested in having a nose surgery done. Im a dark skinned person of African origin looking for a surgeon with experience in performing rhinoplasty on dark skinned people. Have you ever performed cosmetic surgery on dark skinned person before and can you get good results?
A. Thank you for your inquiry. I have indeed performed a number of rhinoplasty procedures for patients of African or Caribbean descent. In most instances, I used the rib cartilage graft technique for augmentation of the tip and bridge of the nose. The results had indeed been satisfactory, and you can see one of them on my website at: http://www.allaboutcosmeticsurgery.co.uk/rhinoplasty/types/ethnic-rhinoplasty

Q. am an Afro-Caribbean person. In 2008 I underwent rhinoplasty. The surgeon (Dr. Van Look, Belgium) had promised me he could produce the type of nose I wanted (smaller, narrower with a smaller tip). He also told me the result would be “excellant”. Unfortunatley, the outcome has been very disappointing and I am now left with a nose that is not what I wanted and has visible scars on either side of the nostrils. He also carried out full-body liposuction on me as well as a tummy tuck during the same time. I was also left with poor results from the liposuction. I am now ‘figthting’ for a revision from this surgeon. He now tells me that he does not think the type of nose I want is possible because, he says, of my racial background – something he did not mention before he carried out the operation. I would very much welcome your opinion.
A. Thank you for your enquiry Ufortunately this is a difficult situation for you. It would be best for you to see your surgeon again to discuss the best way forward. If you would like I would be happy to see you to assess the areas and discuss the best way forward for you. Our website www.aurora-clinics.co.uk provides you with a wealth of information and videos. Q. I am a student doing research on cosmetic surgery for degree and wanted to know what is the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure done currently, liposuction on any part of the body or getting a nose reconstruction cosmetic surgical procedure in terms of actual numbers of cases recorded in the United Kingdom and world wide clients of cosmetic surgeons? Any help be most grateful.
A. I think your best source for information regarding the United States would be the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and for the UK you can contact the BAAPS for some guidance, although he will not have statistics about all the activity that takes place in this country. As far as I know liposuction is the most common cosmetic surgery operation.

Q. Is it possible for someone with severe but controlled asthma to have a cosmetic procedure done on the nose? I would like my nose shortened and reshaped, but I’m not quite sure I’m a candidate due to the asthma situation. I have no trouble with my nose in terms of breathing, but I just don’t fancy the shape and length.
A. Thank you for your email. Asthma is not an absolute contraindication for rhinoplasty however you need to be assessed by the anaesthetist. The anaesthetist would assess the safety of the procedure based on your lung function, exercise tolerance as well as usage of oral steroid for control of your asthama. You may wish to send me good quality photos for my initial comments. You may wish to arrange a detailed consultation with me for assessment and my opinion. Please go through the section of rhinoplasty and the photo gallery on our web site: www.vadodariaplasticsurgery.com to allow you to develop better insight. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. With best wishes,

Q. Hi, I’m a teen girl, sixteen years of age, and I would like to know if I have to finish growing before I could have a nose reshaping. My nose is already too large for my face, I feel, and it’s affecting my outlook on life, but a friend told me I have to be at least 18 or through growing before I could have it corrected. Is this true?
A. Thank you for your email. Completion of facial bone growth is earlier in girls usually between 16 and 17 years of age. If you are very concerned about the size of your nose. You may wish to discuss with your parents and/or GP. If the facial bone growth is finished in your case then reduction of the nose can be considered. May I suggest you to involve your parents/GP to discuss it further with me. With best wishes,

Q. I had a Rhinoplasty with MYA last year and the surgery did not meet my expectations and I am more conscience of my nose now as it now has an unnatural bend due to the stitching done to my left nostril. I have looking into having this procedure done again and corrected, MYA have admitted the issue but I am not comfortable in them performing the surgery again. Can you tell me about everything i need to know about revision rhinoplasty?
A. Thank you for your email. It is a good idea to see the surgeon who performed your first rhinoplasty and discuss your concerns with him. Most of surgeons would normally wait for atleast 12 to 18 months before embarking upon revision rhinoplasty. It is very important to discuss the realistic outcome with the surgeon. You may wish to send me good quality photos for my intial comments. You may wish to go through the section of rhinoplasty and the photo gallery on our web site www.vadodariaplasticsurgery.com to allow you develop better insight. Q. I am thinking of having a rhinoplasty to fix my bent nose. There is a twisted bone in my nostril that make it very difficult to breathe, and make my nose look very crooked from the front. I can only get two weeks off of work; how long would I have to wear the cast on my nose?
A. Thank you for your email. It appears that you have deviated nasal septum which may have dislocated from the lower end and hence you are able to feel in the nostril. Deviated nasal septum can also cause airway obstruction. I would be grateful if you could send me good quality photos for my initial comments. It would be ideal if you could arrange a detailed consultation with me so that I can assess your problem and give my opinion. You may wish to go through the section on Rhinoplasty including the photo gallery on our web site: www.vadodariaplasticsurgery.com to allow you to develop better insight. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance, With best wishes,
