Q. Since I was about 7 my ears have bothered me and I swear they have made me into the shy and unconfident person I am today. Now that I am 18 they tend to affect my confidence quite alot and approaching girls is a nightmare. I think I make more of it than it actually is but not matter how much I try I let the problem bother me. I have saved up enough money and I can now get surgery done privately. I do otoplasty as a daycase so you are in hospital only for a few hours.It is done under local anaesthetic with a sedative to relax you. An incision is made in the natural fold behind your ear and the ear cartilage reshaped. Dissolving sutures and glue are used to close the skin. I do not use any bandages after surgery and you would be able to wash your hair after 24 hours. I would suggest a week off work to allow the swelling to settle but if you have long hair and can cover your ears, you can go back after a day or two.The cost is about  £2400 inclusive.I consult in Leeds or Wakefield. Q. I have been planning to have otoplasty for some time to to change the orientation of my ears from their current angle. I have had 2 consultations so far and each surgeon has suggested a different approch to the surgery. One surgeon wants to resect sections of cartilage from my ear stating that the ears can be set at the most natural angle possible. The second consulation the surgeon said he would use permanent sutures to pin the ears. Can you give me your opinion on these two treatments for my ears please?

A. different surgeons use different techniques to achieve the same result on the same person. It doesn’t mean to say one technique is better than another – it’s just that the surgeons will have opinions on what’s best for you

Q. Hi there. I have some issues with my ears. The cartidge is all broken in the tops of my ears and this makes them stick out quite a lot. I have made the decision to do something about it. Q. Im not sure if you have many people asking about this but my ears are very flat and I would like to taken out slightly so they are more prominent. Can this be done?
