Q. I have now got 2 children. During both pregnancies I had complications which then resulted in me have c-sections with both children. I now have a large amount of fat which hangs over. This gets me down a great deal and limits what I can wear. I cant seem to shift it no matter what. Do i sound like lipo would be suitable for me?

A. Some people are suitable for lipo, some for a tummy tuck – it all depends on what we see and how much of a difference we’re hoping to achieve. However, most people who say they have an overhang of skin benefit from a tummy tuck if they’re concerned about the overhang. Hope that’s helpful

Q. I have lost over 6 stones and I have an apron of extra that I would like to be rid of. The problem a friend told me that my belly button would need to be moved. Is this true, and if it is, why? I like my belly button just fine where it is. He also a new one would have to be made in a new spot. This really concerns me. Will this look unnatural or strange in any way?

A. I think you might have been given some misinformation here! When we perform a tummy tuck we remove all the tissue from the belly button down to the pubic region and the abdominal skin stretches downwards. To prevent the belly button from moving downwards with the skin, we cut a hole around the belly button to make sure it stays in the same place, and when we stitch the skin back in place we cut a new hole in the replaced skin so that the belly button doesn’t move.

Q. After having 3 children all by C-sections i have been left with an overhang of skin on my tummy which has made me desperately unhappy for many years along with not very nice looking scars. Would a tummy tuck remove scars and loose skin? What are costs?

A. A tummy tuck removes many of the scars and overhang that we see after children and a C-section. So, it could well be possible to improve things. However you should know what the limitations of the procedure are as well, and you should see a surgeon for a consultation.
