Q. I would like to have tummy tuck surgery but believe there is a risk of skin necrosis while recovering from surgery? Is this correct and how can I lower the changes of this happening?
A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, generally skin necrosis following tummy tuck surgery is extremely uncommon and I’ve performed a over a hundred of this procedures per year. In the last 10 years, I have not any cases of skin necrosis. Skin necrosis can occur and this normally occurs if you’ve also had liposuction to the area and it’s also much more common in people who smoke. If you’re not a smoker and generally of good health I think the possibility of having skin loss is very unlikely. The cost of this treatment begins at £5660 at aurora clinics and this is a fully inclusive package and including all follow up appointments. A significant amount of fat can be removed at the same time of surgery but we normally set a limit of 5 kilograms of fatty tissue to be removed at one sitting. Before any form of tummy tuck surgery it is important that your body mass index or BMI is 30 or below but it might be worth checking this for your consultation. The reason for this is that the results are much better and the risks are much fewer if your body mass index is below 30. It appears that you are seeking some advice for tummy tuck operation.It is relatively safe procedure with ‘down time’ of 4 to 6 weeks.Tummy tuck may require ‘resiting’/ transposition of the tummy button. If the muscle tone of the tummy is weak then we have to release the tummy button ,tighten the muscles and remove lose skin from the lower abdomen. If there is deposition of fat into the flanks and upper abdomen then liposuction is a very useful tool to improve the body contouring. Q. Please can you give me an idea if the mini tummy tuck is as intrusive as a normal tummy tuck? I had a casareran section 3 years ago and have a slight pouch which just holds fat around my waistline. I go to the gym and used a trainer for 2 months to work on this area but it will just not shift so I am thinking surgery may be the only other option.

From what you describe your options will be either liposuction or a mini- tummy tuck alone or combined with liposuction. either of these are less invasive than a full tummy tuck. A mini tummy tuck is commonly performed as a day case under a light anaesthetic. You are usually well enough to go home after about 4 hours.
