Q. I would like to look into having a tummy tuck to rid myself of the loose skin that has gradually built up over the last few years. The problem is I had an umbilical hernia repair 18 months ago and im worried it could cause complications when having abdominoplasty? Would this be correct or am I worrying about nothing?

A. Hi there. If you had an umbilical hernia repaired and you would like a tummy tuck then I would like to see your operation notes before I did the procedure, since there are different ways of doing the hernia repair. I would also want to see your scar as the type of tummy tuck we can do sometimes depends on the scars you have from other surgeries. So, there usually is no problem, but we want to make sure we’re being safe. For that reason, we would want to see you for a consultation first and discuss your options together.

Q. My current BMI is 33. The though of having a tummy tuck does worry me a little and I would like liposuction (assuming I wont be told a tummy tuck is the best way to go). Would traditional lipo or any of the other laser lipo options work for my situation?

A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, generally I don’t tend recommend tummy tucks running on a BMI of over 30. I generally recommend that you get your BMI below this level before thinking about having any treatment including liposuction. The reason for this is that liposuction and tummy tuck surgery is safer when you’re on your normal weight and less prone to developing complications. For more information about what’s involved in the procedure please visit our website http://aurora-clinics.co.uk where you’ll find lots of information about tummy tucks surgery including all video testimonials from people who’ve recently undergone surgery and if you’re not too squeamish videos of me performing the operation itself. Many thanks for your enquiry, we do look forward to meeting you in the near future. Best Wishes, Yours sincerely Adrian RichardsPlastic and Cosmetic SurgeonConsultant, Aurora Clinics

A. Thank you very much for your enquiry, unfortunately I do not operate in Liverpool but we do have a number of some plastic surgeons in the Liverpool area who we would recommend. Each of the surgeons we recommend for this type of surgery got a very good track record and has extensive experience in tummy tuck surgery. If you would like information about the surgeons we recommend that you go to the Liverpool area please ring us on 01844-214362 or email directly at info@aurora-clinics.co.uk. Best Wishes, Yours sincerely Adrian Richards Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon Consultant, Aurora Clinics

Q. I had a tummy tuck around three years ago and had some problems keloid scarring after the procedure. At the time I had a course of steroid injections that flattened the scar considerably. The problem is the scar is still discoloured and have been told I may need scar revision surgery. Is it likely will improve with time or should I look at having revision surgery now? Many thanks

A. it’s difficult to know exactly what’s going to happen to the scar, but the important thing is that you have a surgeon you can trust and speak to on a regular basis about your scar. You’d need to be seen regularly before anyone can tell whether it’s stopped improving

Q. Im looking for a tummy tuck after having my 3rd child 7 months ago as im left with loose skin and stretch marks.. how do i pick a surgeon who is an expert in tummy tucks as i dont want to end up with issues. i believe you are registered and have extensive qualifications so you specialize in tummy tucks. sorry im new to all of this. i also would like saline implants as im a worrier and the pip scare has totally scared me yet again, do you do saline implants and what would be the oputcome with regards to rippling etc is their a better type of saline for this. kind regards janine

A. Hi Janine. I can understand your concerns about silicone implants, and you should really be able to choose whatever implants you want to have. There are differences between saline and silicone implants in how they feel so you need to be aware of that. Also, saline implants can deflate and if they do then you need to have another operation, and that risk isn’t covered by any aftercare package, as there’s nothing we can do to prevent this. The risk is about 5% of this happening. In terms of a tummy tuck, if you do have any complications or concerns after surgery then we look after you and if I can fix anything that has gone wrong, I try and fix it. Again, there are some things you need to be aware of before the operation and I’d examine you and tell you what results you’re likely to get, where your scar is going to be and so on.
