When Appearance Matters so Much Children Will Resort to Surgery

Filed under: Cosmetic Surgery News — Tags: Bullying, Children, cosmetic surgery, non surgical, plastic surgery, teenagers, under 16 — admin @ 10:47 pm

Just under a third of girls younger than 16 have claimed they would undergo surgery to look better.

In a survey conducted by Beat, an eating disorder charity organization, 40 per cent of girls under 16 said they were bullied due to their appearance.

Girls aged just nine and younger are promoted to look favourably at cosmetic surgery and diets on a website called Miss Bimbo. Young viewers can control the diet of online dolls as well as buy them breast operations and facelifts.

Jay Paine of Peterhead, Scotland, who is nine years old, had to beg his parents to remove a mole on his face surgically because of unbearable bullying at school.

Cosmetic surgery industry in the UK is predicted to reach a total of £1.81billion by 2011. A quarter of these spendings will be for breast enlargement procedures will for a quarter of that. Customers will soon be able to choose more natural surgery as stem cells research enables the use of body cells for cosmetic procedures.

Effectiveness of Dermal Fillers for Treatment of Acne Scars Evaluated by Researchers

Filed under: Skin Care — Tags: Acne scars, cosmetic surgery, dermal fillers, facial Lines, Frown lines, non surgical, plastic surgery, wrinkles — admin @ 2:29 pm

Are dermal fillers an effective treatment for acne scarring?

It has been announced that a new research will be investigating the effectiveness of ArteFill, a non-resorbable dermal filler, as a treatment aimed at improving the condition of skin affected by acne scars.

The product is originally intended to treat smile wrinkles, but some specialists claim it could work just as well for non-invasive cosmetic procedures for treatment of acne scars.

Florida-based dermatologist Dr James Spencer will be conducting the research by using the filler on patients suffering from acne scars and calling them back in after one month to evaluate the results of the treatment.

Dr Spencer, who is also a professor of clinical dermatology at the Mt Sinai School of Medicine, added that the patients will be monitored for another year and the analysed results will be published in a cosmetic surgery journal.

“I use temporary fillers in my practice to treat acne scars and other types of scars,” claimed Dr Spencer. “Unfortunately, temporary fillers necessitate expensive repeat injections so a permanent dermal filler would be desirable to correct a permanent scar. “I’m using ArteFill in my medical practice for smile lines and I can now document the use of ArteFill for acne and other facial scars,” he said. This method could be useful to a number of patients who suffer from acne scars.

Survey Reveals Botox is a Desirable Christmas gift

Filed under: Anti Ageing — Tags: Anti Ageing, Botox, christmas, clinic, Injection, Lines, wrinkles — admin @ 12:32 am

According to a new study, just under 50 per cent of people in the UK would be happy to receive vouchers for Botox injections as Christmas presents this year.

The study was carried out by Which?, a well known consumer website, and suggested that Botox treatments are seen as a desirable Christmas present by 50 per cent of people aged from 16 to 24 and 45 per cent of people aged 55 to 64.

Jenny Driscoll, a health campaigner for Which?, commented on the results of the study: “Our main advice for people is, don‘t take Botox treatment lightly.

“Whether you‘ve received vouchers as a present, or you are buying the treatment for someone else, the last thing you want to do is put yourself or your loved ones at risk, so make sure you do your research.”

As a result of the difficult financial situation and increased pressure levels, the study shows that one out of ten people in the UK aged 35 and younger would consider Botox treatments as a present to their loved ones as a way to deal with emerging fine lines this Christmas.

Increasing Popularity of Non Surgical Treatments

Filed under: Non-Surgical Treatments — Tags: chemical peels, dermabrasion, non surgical. wrinkles, skin peels — admin @ 11:42 pm

Demand for less invasive anti ageing and facial rejuvenation procedures soars.

Research conducted by a US-based skincare expert has revealed more and more people choose alternative methods to defy ageing problems over procedures involving surgical intervention.

Dermatologist Howard Brooks has told WUSA9.com that Botox injections were still popular among people looking for ways to fight wrinkles.

The doctor from Washington said: “Studies show that while there is a decrease in surgical procedures such as face lifts, non-surgical treatments are on the rise.” He also claimed that Botox injections were very popular, because they effectively decrease the wrinkles and lines which start showing on the face with older age.

Ladonna Curzon, a mother who is trying to find a job after staying at home with children, was also interviewed by WUSA9.com. Ms Curzon claimed that she was convinced Botox injections would massively increase her chances to find work.

Many celebrities admit having used Botox injections as a way to look younger, including Simon Cowell from X Factor.

Patients Prefer to Stay Conscious While Having Facelifts

Filed under: Facial Surgery — Tags: Anti Ageing, face lift, facelift, Facial Surgery — admin @ 12:39 am

More people opt for sedation and local as the risks can be lower.

It has been revealed that more and more patients of cosmetic surgery are choosing an alternative form of facelift operation during which they can stay fully conscious.

US-based experts have reported that as the popularity of anti-ageing treatments is increasing in many different countries, many people now choose to have procedures performed while being only anaesthetized only locally.

It is also noted that liposuction facelifts which don’t require the patient to be fully unconscious are growing more popular than ones with full anaesthetic for a number of different reasons.

Dr Mike Maris, a surgeon based in Dallas, told WFAA: “I think this is a good procedure for chickens because if you’re afraid to go under anesthetics because of the risk, or if you’re afraid you’ll look too surgical when you get through, I think it’s an ideal procedure.”

Moreover, these changes are also influenced by some people who receive lower income having an opportunity to spend less money on aesthetics as well as the possibility to reduce the length of recovery from any cosmetic surgery.

This week US-based publications have also revealed that ”Botox parties” are becoming very successful among women in the States and could soon win over Tupperware parties in terms of popularity.

Czech Clinic Perform Liposuction on More Men Than Women.

Filed under: Weight Loss — Tags: lipo, liposuction, Male Cosmetic Surgery — admin @ 12:41 pm

Liposuction is getting increasingly popular among male patients

Czech plastic surgery industry has reported that men are more interested in improving their body shape by liposuction than women. The new research claims that the popularity of body sculpting procedures and surgical fat removal is experiencing a steady growth among men.

The research found out that just under three quarters of Czech surgeons claim liposuction is one of the most demanded plastic surgery procedure among men, next to eyelid and nose treatments.

There are a few different types of the popular procedure: tumescent, ultrasound and fluid injection liposuction.

John Schneider, the 47-year-old Dukes of Hazzard star, admitted to having had liposuction performed to get rid of undesirable fat from his stomach that couldn’t be shed by exercising.

“I went the liposuction route a couple years ago. I did 1,000 sit-ups and nothing was happening,” he revealed to Extra magazine last year.

Another surgical procedure increasingly requested by men around the globe is male breast reduction.

Foot Cosmetic Surgery Becoming Increasingly Popular

Filed under: Anti Ageing — Tags: Anti Ageing, feet, feet rejuvenation, feet surgery, foot surgery — admin @ 12:02 pm

Just as the rest of skin shows signs of ageing so do our feet.

There has been an increase in numbers of foot procedures in the UK, as women who strive to be stylish and fashionable use plastic surgery as a way to improve the appearance of their feet.

Experts report that recently patients have been requesting more and more toe and ankle correction procedures as well as Botox injections to the balls of the feet. Moreover, some female patients have ordered liposuction performed on the ankles of their feet in order to make them look more elegant.

“Some patients come through with short toes that they would like lengthened, or they want to have their ”toe cascades” [the curve at the end of the foot, from the big toe down to the little toe] improved, so that when they wear strappy sandals their toes don’t look out of place,” commented president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons Nigel Mercer.

The trend is likely to have come from America, where foot correction procedures, such as toe straightening, shortening and lengthening, are popular among women who wear designer shoes.

Some celebrities are famous for wearing trademark sky scraping heels, such as Victoria Beckham, Gwen Stefani and Gwyneth Paltrow

Boob job piggy bank criticised by parents

Filed under: Cosmetic Surgery Finance — Tags: boob job, breast enlargement, Breast Implants, Cosmetic Surgery Finance, teenagers — admin @ 11:37 pm

A website received criticism for encouraging young girls to save money for breast implants.

Wake Up Frankie! is an online retail outlet specializing at selling clothes and accessories for teenagers.

But the US-based website has raised negative reaction among parents for offering buyers a pink piggy bank saying Boob Job on it.

The pink ceramic saving box, decorated with dollar signs, raised concerns because of the implication that the collected savings are going to be used for a breast enlargement operation.

Louise Colley, who is a mum of two, told the Telegraph: “I would never give this as a present to any young girl, it just doesn’t seem right.”

“Just because a girl is 13 or over doesn’t mean she should be encouraged to think about major cosmetic surgery.”

Breast enlargement operations are still a popular solution for young women who are not satisfied with their current breast size.

Women are often influenced by images of celebrities in glamour magazines.

New Form of Liposuction Offered in US

Filed under: Cosmetic Surgery News,Weight Loss — Tags: Add new tag, laser surgery, lipo, liposuction, smartlipo — admin @ 3:20 pm

Laser surgery technology incorporated into Liposuction could lead the way.

A surgery in Los Angeles is offering patients a new form of liposuction that can offer faster results and a shorter recovery period in a method called SmartLipo.

Dr Christine Petti, based in LA, is offering patients the treatment which involves the use of lasers, described as “a minimally invasive procedure offering abundant benefits for liposuction patients”.  Petti is the Founder and Medical Director of the Aesthetic Accents Cosmetic and Laser Surgery Centre and is a highly acclaimed Cosmetic Surgeon in the LA area.

The treatment involves placing the patient under a local anaesthetic and then making an incision using a fibre optic laser. This method reduces scarring and other after effects of surgery by closing down the blood vessels, a reaction to the wavelengths sent by the laser. As a result, scarring is kept minimal, as well as bruising and swelling which subsequently reduces recovery time.

The method also includes melting of the fatty deposits in the body using further laser techniques. Here, two wavelengths work together to mould the fat and aide in skin tightening. The company refers to the procedure as producing “smoother, more natural and superior aesthetic results.”

Dr Petti herself says, “I believe that beauty is twofold, combining aesthetic eye appeal with inner peace to create a feeling of complete well-being. We work to achieve total enhancement.”

The technique differs to the traditional one, whereby a tiny incision is made in the skin without a laser and a tube called a cannula is inserted into the body. This tube is used to vacuum out the fatty deposits that lie beneath the skin and are often unresponsive to dieting and exercising. The cannula is pushed and pulled through the layer of fat, breaking it up as it vacuums it up through suction. Even with this version of the treatment, the incision is carefully considered so as to prevent scarring on the most part. To prevent patients from going into shock, fluids are on hand to enter the body as some are inevitably lost along with the fat.

Patients are always urged to discuss any procedure with their consultant before undergoing any surgeries. A surgeon can help you to decide on the risks involved with both forms of liposuction.

New ‘Boob Jab’ Could Change Cosmetic Surgery Industry

Filed under: Breast Surgery,Non-Surgical Treatments — Tags: Boob Jab, breast enhancement, Non-Surgical Breast Enlargement — admin @ 8:14 am

New Trend In The US Could Have Similar Effects In The UK

There is a rise of non-surgical breast enlargement procedures taking place in the United States, the questions are how safe are they, and how long before it becomes the norm in the United Kingdom?

The Independent reports that new procedures such as ‘Botox Boob Jobs’ and ‘Lunchtime Boob Jabs’ are proving very popular stateside with many women having the same solution used to smooth out wrinkles on people’s faces used on their breasts.

‘Botox Boob Jobs’ involves injecting botox into the muscles in the chest known as ‘pectoralis’. As a result, the rhomboid muscle in the chest rises up and lifts the breast.

However, there is concern about the safety of the procedure, firstly because non-surgical treatments are less tightly regulated than their surgical counterparts, and also because the process involves affecting a muscle in the chest that is useful in everyday activities.

The Independent refers to Botox specialist Dr Nick Milojevic who points out that the muscles in question are used in practices like skiing or more commonly in turning over in bed.

The concern of regulations being too relaxed with such procedures surrounds the fact that inexperienced assistants could carry out the process, which could result in disaster. In the UK the light regulations concerning the procedures mean that they could be carried out by nurses or beauticians.

Mr Nigel Mercer of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) is particularly concerned of such problems,

“The thought of a nurse performing this is alarming. The Government are shy of regulating this industry, although professionals and consumers are pushing for it,”
Another form of surgery that could prove popular is what the Independent calls the ‘Boob Jab’, where injectable fillers are inserted into the breast via a canula. However, this is a costly procedure in its own right and the cost rises each year as the injectable filler needs topping up regularly.
Currently, breast enlargement treatments are carried out surgically by inserting an implant known as prosthesis into the breast so that a larger shape is created. Breast uplift procedures (known as mastopexy) are also carried out surgically, whereby excess skin is removed from the breast area and the areola moved to a new position.
