Appearance Does Matter

Appearance does matter as the people create their first impression about us by noticing our looks. Due to this all of us are much concerned about our appearances. We normally and rightly believe that if we will look good we get more attention. That enhance our confidence and we try hard to maintain or improve our appearance.

It is common that with the growing age, some age spots appears at our body. They can emerge on face, neck, hands or any where else at ones body. There are four common ways or anti aging guidelines to encounter this problem. The best thing is to consult with your family physician or any professional skin specialist that which treatment will be best suited for you.

Liquid Nitrogen – Liquid nitrogen is a trouble-free and successful treatment to get rid of age spots and moles. The dermatologist prefers this method because of the very high success ratio. The liquid nitrogen is sprayed on the spot with sheer force which causes the treated area to peel off and after some time the new skin replaces the old and affected skin.

Chemical Peel – In chemical peel a light acid is utilized to get fresher and healthier cells by removing the upper layer of the dead skin cells. This treatment helps in better skin texture, reducing lines around eyes and mouth and also in other skin discoloration issues.

Fractional Resurfacing – Here the laser light has been utilized to destroy the upper skin layer. Fraxel and Pearl Laser which are the common devices used in this way of treatment also stimulates the fresh cells growth. After some time when the affected areas healed up, the patient will get much better, much tightened and much desired skin.

Lightening Products – Number of products are easily available for skin tone treatments and also for the lightening of the skin. There are both synthetic beauty products and natural ways to make use of. Elure from Syneron is a useful product in this regard. The natural ways includes the use of Aloe Vera, Lavender, Fennel and Marigold for excellent tone treatments.

An ideal tip for staying away from the age spots is the extensive and regular use of a good sun block against the injurious UV rays. Interaction with your family physician or skin specialist and act according to his advice will be really helpful in getting better results for your appearance.

Quit Smoking Now! Or Suffer the Consequences of Horrible Skin

Smoking can cause heart disease and lung cancer, but it’s most visible damage is towards the skin. Very often patients want to repair the damages smoking has done to their complexion. The recommended advice for the individual should be to quit smoking, which would result in the skin being able to repair itself. Age isn’t a deciding factor in the outcome of long-term smoking. By continuing to smoke, the problem will become more severe and harm any chances of reversing any skin damage. (Kate Moss is an example of the potential outcome, but the most notorious chain-smoker was writer Lillian Hellman, her wrinkles were infamous.)

By smoking, the toxic chemicals in the body are in need of vitamins, therefore, the brain reroutes all vitamins within your body away from the skin. Nicotine reduces the blood flow, resulting in less oxygen being received. The skin winds up deteriorating, turning dry and flaky, and becomes less durable. Since, collagen is no longer being produced the skin sags and wrinkles.

The damages are reversible if it’s not too severe. Usually within 6 weeks, the body’s high level of oxygen and antioxidants will benefit the skin. The smoker will definitely need a skin-care regime to assist the healing process.

The use of sunscreen (UVA and UVB), and face cream that contains vitamins (such as Vitamin A, C, and E) will help the process along. The face cream should contain an ingredient called peptides.

The diet should include plenty of colorful fruits and veggies; the body needs antioxidants and vitamins to continue to heal. Exfoliating twice a week will remove dead skin and increase the production of collagen. To treat wrinkles try either a laser treatment or chemical peel both will result in an increased collagen production.

When I was 16, smoking was considered harmless. After joining the navy, the addiction worsened. Smoking up to 20 cigarettes within a day became a normal routine. By the 70s, I reduced my cigarette consumption and quit by the age of 34. Even though smoking was a part of my life style for 20 years I stopped, and my skin looks as if I’d never smoke.

Options For Tattoo Removal

With so many people getting tattoos now a days, there are more and more people needing tattoos removed as well. However, there are many choices to have a tattoo removed.

Laser Removal

Lasers are used to create a high amount of heat to break down the ink in the tattoo. The ink is then removed through the bodies own functions. Laser tattoo removal may cause blistering of the skin, because of the high temperature. The skin is numbed, but laser removal can still be uncomfortable. Multiple laser treatments may be necessary to remove the tattoo depending on the size and color of the tattoo.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion entails taking a sanding disk or wire brush and removing the top layers of the skin. Dermabrasion has been around for years and the process can be very painful and does usually scar. The area is numbed and the skin is brushed and sanded away until all the ink is gone.

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy, also called IPL, is another laser version of tattoo removal. The source of light is different and it is less painful than standard laser treatment. Fewer treatments are needed to remove the tattoo, however it is mush more expensive to have done.

Surgical Removal

The tattoo is surgically cut away. Once the area has been removed, the skin that surrounded the tattoo is sewn together to cover the opening. However, this only works on small tattoos. Larger tattoos can result in a skin graph to cover the removed skin. This procedure is very painful and is usually used as last resort.

Scarification Peels

A chemical peel is when an acid solution is used on the tattoo area, which results in the skin peeling away. Trichloroacetic acid is used when doing a chemical peel. The acid damages the skin, which results in the peeling. This does require a few treatments and as the top layer of skin peels away, the layers below with the ink began to peel away as well. However, it is not always very effective and many times the tattoo can still be seen and is only faded.

Removal Creams

Tattoo removal creams have Hydroquinone in them and can be risky if used for a long time. Hydroquinone can result in the darkening of the skin. These creams can take a year or more to remove the tattoo and and does become costly.

Chemical Peels: Popularity Soaring

There are many different types of cosmetic procedures and they are divided into two categories: surgical and non surgical. Surgical procedures include breast augmentation, liposuction, and tummy tucks. Non-surgical procedures include accent laser treatment, Botox, and collagen injections. A non-surgical procedure that is becoming more and more popular is chemical peels.

The Press Association reports that chemical peels have actually become more popular than face lifts. The number of chemical peels performed in 2009 was three times the procedures performed the previous year. The Harley Medical Group’s Obagi Blue Peel is a treatment which gets rid of blemishes, acne scars, uneven pigmentation, sun damage, and wrinkles. It has been called by some the ‘recessions facelift’ due to
the increased popularity of the treatments. Liz Dale, director of the Harley Medical Group, said, “Non-surgical procedures, which saw big growth last year, have continued to be a strong area for us and now account for 32 percent of all our business.”

Chemical peels are a skin resurfacing procedure, in which the top layer of skin is removed so that the body can replace it with new skin. The new skin will grow back without whatever problem had been on the old skin. There are three different classifications for chemical peels. There are light peels which are basically
exfoliants. Intermediate peels are good for fine lines and superficial hyper pigmentation from sun damage. Deep peels can remove deep lines, medium sized wrinkles, and darker pigmentation. Many people find that they do not need to get a face-lift and are happy to settle for a chemical peel which makes their facial skin
look fresh and young.

In the plastic surgery field chemical peels are indeed increasing in popularity but the most popular cosmetic procedure is still, by far, breast augmentation. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons reported that in 2009 there were a total of 8,565 breast augmentation procedures, in the UK. Studies done in January of 2010 also show that breast augmentation should prove to be the most popular
procedure in 2010. The Press Association reported that 75 percent of breast up lift patients in 2009 were mothers.

Undergoing a plastic surgery procedure can help to make a person look and feel young. Chemical peel are a way for some people to achieve this without a surgical procedure. The popularity of these effective yet non-invasive treatments has been increasing quickly and shows no sign of slowing.

New Weapon in the Cellulite War

Summer is approaching and many of us will be nervous about flashing the flesh as we head towards the beaches and resorts to get our yearly tans.

Women who might have been scared about packing the rather revealing bikini they splashed out on can breathe a sigh of relief as help is on hand for those who want to tone up thanks to another advance in cosmetic surgery.  ZERINA laser treatment is the newest kid on the aesthetic surgery block.

The procedure was launched in the cosmetic-surgery capital Los Angeles and is fast becoming a hit.  Whilst it hasn’t come across the Atlantic just yet, its popularity over the pond means that it must surely only be a matter of time before British women are also able to take advantage of this latest technological advancement. Of course, if you’ve always needed an excuse to go to America, then medical tourism could now provide the answer!

It’s a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment in which lasers are used to sculpt areas of the body. Women could tone their thighs, their hips and many other unsightly areas of their body and the fact that the treatments are non-invasive will come as good news to young professionals. With the recession meaning that people are trying to avoid taking any time off work for fear they could lose their jobs.  American-based cosmetic surgeon Dr. Troy Don has spoken out about the new treatment, saying that: “I used to joke with my patients. I’d ask them if there was anything else I could do to help them with their health”. His patients would hit back with: “ya, can you get rid of my extra fat without me exercising or changing my diet?” Normally Dr. Don would come back with some sarcastic comment about needing a “magic wand”. Well now such a magic wand is at hand, and it comes in the form of this revolutionary laser treatment.

Cellulite is not just a problem which affects us mere mortals; celebrities on both sides of the Atlantic constantly have to deny rumours that they are affected. Well, now we have two options: invest in a nice pair of lightweight jeans for the summer or, if we want to crack out that bathing suit, get on board with this brand new surgery which can banish our cellulite and help us have a happy summer; sadly sunny weather cannot be guaranteed.

A ‘Miracle’ Skin Healing Product Launched by Plastic Surgeons

Cosmetic surgery specialists have launched a new healing gel, a revolutionary beauty product that could transform the treatment of infections and scars.

HEAL was developed by a skincare group called the Firm that is comprised of London Plastic Surgery Associates surgeons. The gel is designed to reduce inflammation of skin after plastic surgery. It is also said to be useful in treating sprains, sunburn, bruises and scars. The product contains arnica, haloxyl and glistin and repairs damage to the skin tissue, accelerates the healing process and reduces discomfort.

“HEAL was created because no single product existed that combines all the elements of reducing bruising and inflammation as well as accelerating the healing process,“ said Peter Butler, a skincare expert and is in charge of the UK facial transplantation team.

“The difference with HEAL is that the key ingredients are present in the right formulations to ensure they penetrate the skin’s surface and actually have a dramatic effect on the end result.”

94 per cent of cosmetic surgery patients claimed HEAL had a soothing effect when used on bruised parts of the skin; 82 per cent reported that it reduced swelling that occured after surgery; 85 per cent believed it was an effective way to reduce post-surgery bruising, according to a research by London Plastic Surgery Associates.

Chemical Peels Can Help Fight Acne

According to the researchers, chemical peels that use alpha-hydroxy or beta-hydroxy acid are an effective way to treat mild and moderate spots on the face.

Scientists at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine used the two different types of acid peels in 20 patients, who were averagely around 24 years old.

The volunteers Participants were treated with a chemical peel every second week for six weeks, with one side of the face being treated with alpha-hydroxy acid and the other with beta-hydroxy acid.
Both types of chemical peel significantly reduced acne lesions within the first two weeks and, one month after the final treatment, 94 per cent of patients had a good or fair improvement on both sides of the face.

After a further month, the sides of the face treated with alpha-hydroxy had developed a few new lesions, but 75 per cent of patients were still deemed to show good or fair improvement.

The findings are published in the journal Dermatologic Surgery and Dr Dee Anna Glaser, vice chair and professor of dermatology, described them as “good news”. “This provides more options for patients and doctors to choose from when it comes to tailoring a treatment programme for each individual,” she added.

Scientists Launch Trial Acne Scar Treatment for Patients With Dark Skin

Experts have decided to investigate the possibilities of a specially designed laser treatment aimed at improving the skin condition of patients with darker skin suffering from acne scars.

Dark skin with acne scars has always been particularly difficult to treat. Usually, in order to treat acne scars the outer layer of the skin is removed with lasers or by chemical peeling. However, in this case dark-skinned patients develop a discolouration.

The new laser method would not remove any skin, but induce collagen in the deepest layers of the tissue to grow., thus causing the skin to become smoother without damaging it.

“This is breaking new ground in that there’s been very little research published in this area,“ commented Dr Natalie Semchyshyn, assistant professor of dermatology at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine.
“Most of the studies involving non-ablative lasers for acne scarring have been done on patients with lighter skin – yet an increasing proportion of the population…has darker skin tones.”

The initial trial will last for 18 months and if it brings positive results, it could be a revolutionary way to treat people suffering from acne without surgical procedures.

Effectiveness of Dermal Fillers for Treatment of Acne Scars Evaluated by Researchers

Are dermal fillers an effective treatment for acne scarring?

It has been announced that a new research will be investigating the effectiveness of ArteFill, a non-resorbable dermal filler, as a treatment aimed at improving the condition of skin affected by acne scars.

The product is originally intended to treat smile wrinkles, but some specialists claim it could work just as well for non-invasive cosmetic procedures for treatment of acne scars.

Florida-based dermatologist Dr James Spencer will be conducting the research by using the filler on patients suffering from acne scars and calling them back in after one month to evaluate the results of the treatment.

Dr Spencer, who is also a professor of clinical dermatology at the Mt Sinai School of Medicine, added that the patients will be monitored for another year and the analysed results will be published in a cosmetic surgery journal.

“I use temporary fillers in my practice to treat acne scars and other types of scars,” claimed Dr Spencer. “Unfortunately, temporary fillers necessitate expensive repeat injections so a permanent dermal filler would be desirable to correct a permanent scar. “I’m using ArteFill in my medical practice for smile lines and I can now document the use of ArteFill for acne and other facial scars,” he said. This method could be useful to a number of patients who suffer from acne scars.
