Cosmetic Surgery For Tight Shoes

They have the Cinderella Procedure that narrows the feet and prevents bunions. There is the Perfect 10 Aesthetic Toe Shortening procedure that will trim any toes that hang over the edge of sandles or are crushed by tight shoes. Or the Foot Tuck Fat Pad Augmentation that takes fat from the patients stomach and adds it to the balls of the feet to provide additional cushion and comfort while wearing high heels.

The clinics founder, Ali Sadrieh, feels that telling women not to wear high heels is unrealistic. Instead he created treatments that help women function without pain and discomfort.

However, these procedures have created outrage from orthopedic foot surgeons. One surgeon, Donald R. Bohay works from Grand Rapids, Michigan, stated that shortening toes to make them fit into shoes is not typical of a doctor’s office care. Along with Dr. Bohay, the American Podiatric Medical Association agrees. As Kathleen Stone, Glendale, Arizona has stated, that the function of a podiatrist is to reduce pain and correct deformities. They are not there to help men and women wear smaller shoes.

Blame it on shows such as Sex In The City that started in 1998. There are no specific statistics on the number of foot surgeries that have occurred since the show came out, however since the show has started there has been a steady rise in foot surgeries and they are not slowing down either.

Although foot surgeons are warning against these types of surgeries, no one is listening. A public relations woman in Manhattan believes that women want to have the operations and will as their are more efficient ways. She feels that it will be as common as having a nose job done. She looks forward to when she can have bunion surgery completed and have pretty feet that no longer hurt.

However, many doctors feel that surgeries should be used to remove pain and deformities from the foot. This is an argument that has caused problems between many doctors. While doctors doing these procedures feel they are stopping the pain and deformities before they happen. There are doctors who will not help patients who want surgeries only for cosmetic reasons or who are looking at extreme measures, such as toe amputation to fit into shoes.

Devastating Effects Of Too Much Plastic Surgery

There are numerous medical malpractice claims that can be levied against plastic surgeons. These can include breast implants, liposuction, face lifts and breast reduction as well. Patients have to consider whether or not to bring legal action against doctors that have caused sever infections, scarring, diseases, disfiguration, tissue damage and other strange results that can occur. Many times people who want to change or improve the way they look, end up facing other embarrassment, discomfort, pain, complications and numerous corrective surgeries. Not only that, but having to deal with multiple procedures and multiple failures is something to consider as well.

The thought of the “Cat Woman”, name is Jocelyn Wildenstein has become the face of too many surgeries that went wrong. However, more recently there is the experience of the British flight attendant that won a make over and now explains how plastic surgeons will go too far when not properly kept in check.

Nicole Stratton is the British flight attendant. She was chosen to be on the popular British program, Brand New You. She wanted to look better for her husband, however he did not feel this way. For the show, she received 30 hours of plastic and cosmetic surgery in Los Angeles, California in a matter of 6 weeks. Doctors changed her nose, ears, brow and breast enhancements. She also had liposuction done on her stomach, back, hips, jaw and chin. Furthermore, she had extensive dental work completed and laser eye surgery done as well. By the time all the surgeries were completed, the grand total was a quarter of a million dollars.

What first seemed like a dream come true, later was not. Since she had saline implants inserted, one ruptured and both breasts were replaced with silicone implants instead. However, later one of those was replaced due to a build up of scar tissue. Not only that, but when these occurrences took place, she had to pay to go back to California and pay the doctor’s fees. Because of these stresses, her husband and she later divorced, she left the travel industry and now works for the prison system.

Doctors need to let patients know the risks and complications that can occur from plastic surgery. A medical malpractice lawyer should be contacted when there has been drastic damages, so that the patient has legal options and the possibility of recovering the money spent.

Packard’s is Repairing Deformities of Face, Neck, and Skull

Many children suffer from deformities of the face and skull. These deformities are tricky to fix because of the impingement on skin, bone, brain and eyes. The aesthetic outcome of the surgery must also be considered. The child’s face will grow and the repair should be as minimally disfiguring as possible. Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital has a craniofacial and plastic surgery team that is able to perform these reconstructions efficiently and effectively.

The clinic has specialists from craniofacial surgery, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, orthordontics, genetics, psychiatry, audiology, speech-language therapy, ophthalmology, nursing and social work. This wide range of specialists allows for the children to see each doctor that they may need all in the same day. It makes the process easier on the families because it is not necessary for them to travel to multiple specialists separately. After this procedure they then create a coordinated care plan to ensure that all treatments are delivered at the correct times.

Packard Children’s research has made advances in the stretching of bone. A few deformities are results of disfigured bone and creating a way to fix this was completely necessary. The surgeon cut the bone in two and secure the two pieces close together, causing the pieces to grow trying to close the gap. As the gap gets smaller the surgeons spread the bone again, repeating this process until it is the right size. This process is called bone distraction and is used in undersized jaw bones, facial asymmetry, and crainiosynostosis.

Soft tissue defects of the face, head and neck are also treated at Packard Children’s. They are able to restore smiles of children who lack facial nerve and muscle function. They actually take pieces of tissue from other parts of the body and then transplant them in the affected area. After meticulously connecting blood vessels and nerves the transplants are able to grow naturally. Another soft flesh treatment that they offer is for hemangiomas. Hemangiomas is a blood vessel tumor which causes purple blotches on the skin. These tumors can leave a scar if not operated on.

The Clinic would like to be able to perform these reconstructive procedures without leaving any scar at all. They are researching fetal dot cells to accomplish this. Dr. H. Peter Lorenz is the director of craniofacial surgery and service chief for plastic surgery at Packard Children’s. He told Stanford School of Medicine that,
“Dot cells are like soldiers for stem cells.” Research showed that the cells move to a wound and help to make healthy new skin. He continued, “We could inject the cells into patients with skin problems to enable scarless skin repair. The possibilities are really exciting.”

Dallas Surgeon Chooses to Help Haiti

The earthquake in Haiti has left many people injured and deformed. Many of the victims require complex reconstructive surgical procedures. World wide assistance has been offered but the problem seems to be overwhelming. Dr. Craig Hobar, of the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute, told the Dallas Morning News, “Either you say it’s too enormous; there’s no way; get me out of here – or you react like I hope we have; You say there’s too much pain and devastation, and I can’t fix it, but I’ve got to do everything I can do to help.” And he is truly doing everything that he can.

Dr. Hobar has steeped away from his practice in order to organize assistance for Haiti. He was approached to organize medical teams and logistics for specialists who wanted to help Haiti. By the fourth day after the quake Hobar was on the ground in Haiti along with two colleagues. This group performed around the clock amputations and trauma surgeries for three days. Hobar then returned to Texas to organize the help.

In 1991 Hobar had started a not-for-profit organization called Life Enhancement Association for People (LEAP). This organization performed medical missions around the world to help fix children’s facial and limb deformities, with annual medical missions. He said of the countries that they help, “For many of these countries we have become the team of last hope.”

Now LEAP has come to Haiti’s aid. The organization has donated over $100,000 and has brought together volunteers to mount a long-term presence in Haiti. Hundreds of surgeons and other medical personnel from as far away as Germany and Turkey have volunteered. The personnel are on week long rotations to provide the medical care needed, especially post operation treatment. Donors were also generously available when needed. Some business men even offered their private jets for transporting teams to Haiti.

In the midst of the relief effort Dr. Hobar was happy and depressed at the same time. He was happy to be helping where he was needed and sad to see the devastation surrounding the people of Haiti. A hand surgeon by the name of Dr. John Elfar summed it up well when he said, “You can’t do this work too long. It’ll break your heart. Still, it’s not very often you feel like you’ve gone to the right place and done the
right thing.”

How Do You Steal Cosmetic Surgery

Some people are actually stealing to pay to have bigger breasts, slimmer arms and botox treatments. With these types of procedures being so popular today, I guess people who can’t afford it are finding other ways to pay for their obsessions.

Boyfriend Steals Money to Pay for Girlfriend’s Breast Implants

Some people are desperate to have larger breasts or their boyfriends are I should say as in the report of a woman’s boyfriend who stole a signed check for 9,000 euros to pay for his girlfriend’s breast enlargement operation. The girlfriend now wishes she had never had the surgery and wishes she could just yank them right off and hand them to her now ex-boyfriend. The girlfriend always wanted bigger breast but is not happy with the way she received them. Every time she looks down she is reminded of the crime that took place to put these large boobs on her chest. She reportedly was obsessed with getting cosmetic surgery and charmed her boyfriend into finding the money some way. Of course she never imagined that he would steal to pay for them.

Woman Steals Money for Cosmetic Surgery
A similar story was reported of a woman who stole 8,000euros of someone else’s money so she could have cosmetic surgery. She received breast implants and liposuction with the stolen money, but was later arrested and jailed.

California Woman Steals Another’s Identity for Cosmetic Surgery
A 30 year old woman committed fraud by using someone else’s identity to cover the cost of her cosmetic surgery that totaled $12,000. She had the surgery in Huntington Beach at a clinic, but never returned for her follow-up office visit. She was later identified in a photo-lineup and was arrested. The judge sentenced her to 180 days in jail and put her on three years of probation. She plead guilty to the crimes, which included grand theft, identity theft and second-degree burglary. She also must pay restitution.

Florida Woman Steals Another’s Identity to Pay for Slimmer Arms
A woman in Florida stole the identity of another woman to pay for breast implants and liposuction on her arms to remove sagging flesh. The woman who is 29 and a single mother charged up more than $5,000 during her spending spree of cosmetic surgery.

The woman stole a college enrollment form that was filled out by another woman and placed inside a mailbox outside of a post office. The college never received the application and later the victim soon found out that five credit cards had been opened and used in her name with charges of $12,000.

After an investigation was done, the cosmetic surgery clinic was discovered on one of the credit card charges. The accused had told the clinic that her cousin would be paying for the surgery and when police found the cousin they discovered a driver’s license in her possession with the victim’s name on it. The woman who stole the identity is facing up to ten years of prison time.

Woman Steals Cosmetic Treatments by Bouncing Checks
A woman who is now called the Botox Bandit reportedly went into cosmetic surgery clinics, had work done and simply walked out without paying or wrote bad checks. The woman apparently stole a fortune in botox and other beauty treatments.

Out of Proportion Body Parts

Are you fascinated with the biggest, best and craziest natural phenomenon? Well here are four of the most out of this world body parts each the biggest in their specific area. If you look closely at the pictures you can see that these are all natural and the body parts have formed but to ginormous proportions! Each person has lived with their large body part their whole life and some have never thought it was abnormal to have extremely large features. From all over the world here are the biggest nose, tongue, hand, and breasts in the world!

1. Biggest Nose in the World
At first glance the older man just looks like he has a large tumor or growth at the end of his nose but looking closer we have noticed it is part of the his nose! Apparently from birth this mans has been growing and has never stopped. It looks to be about seven inches long and quite disproportionate to his face. Although he has the worldest largest nose it does not look like it has effected his health. He looks much older than fifty and still is able to walk around with the worlds biggest nose centered between his loving eyes.

2. Worlds Biggest Tongue
When looking at the young man he does not seem to have any abnormal body parts but then he opens his mouth to reveal the biggest tongue in the world. Fully extended it is over six inches and a couple inches wide. He seems to complete control over his large tongue and can manipulate it from side to side. Although we do not know the weight, a few facts about the tongue can help us estimate: the tongue is a muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. After a couple calculations the tongue weighs around five pounds, by observing its surface area.

3. Worlds Biggest Hand
Unlike the two previous the man with the worlds biggest hand has a normal size opposing body part to match. Doctors weighed and measured the colossal hand, reporting it was 10 kilograms(just over 20lbs) and his index finger was 30 cenitmeters long!(almost a foot long) The man attached to the worlds largest hand is from People’s Republic of China but due to the inconvenience of having a large hand has opted to have it reduced. Doctors have spent 15 hours sizing down his index and thumb but need another few hours to complete the procedure.

4. Worlds Biggest Breasts
Yes folks those are breasts. I can guarantee a DD bra does not fit her. They take up half of the front of her body and look to be tens of pounds each. The fact that she has not gotten a breast reduction is amazing they must put an immense strain on her back. I guess when you have the biggest breasts in the world you have to keep and show them off. They are huge and believe it or not they are real and she is proud of them.

Valentine’s Day Gift : Dimples?

Valentine’s Day is the day where people are reminded that it is important to show others how much they are loved. It has been promoted as primarily a holiday for couples and their are many gifts that couples exchange on this wonderful day. Some people stick with traditional gifts such as flowers, chocolate, and jewelry. But some are unique and they opt for things like cosmetic treatment packages. So, it is really possible to buy a sweetheart a set of dimples to enhance their smile.

Giving cosmetic treatment packages is actually becoming popular, with more and more people giving these gifts each year. The improvement in societies attitude toward cosmetic procedures is directly responsible for this. Society no longer looks down on a person for getting a procedure done to look better. The word vain is no longer associated with cosmetic procedures because most people really would like to look prettier then they are. Instead of feeling guilty about plastic surgery people are excited about it. Gitika Chopa, 28, a Delhi-based banker, was practically glowing when she found out about the gift her boyfriend planned to give her for Valentine’s Day. She told the India Gazette, “My boyfriend is gifting me a package that includes Botox and other therapies to help me get rid of wrinkles and other marks on my face. This is the most exciting gift that I have ever got because it will give me a new lease on life.”

The rush that surgeons are seeing near Valentines Day is not surprising to Manoj Kumar J. Manwani, cosmetic surgeon at Criticare Hospital in Mumbai. He told the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) over the phone, “This is a common thing. Every year we see an increase in the number of people going in for cosmetic procedures around Valentine’s Day because everyone wants to look good….We see more than 20 percent increase in women going in for cosmetic procedures around Valentine’s Day.”

Dr. Manwani also said, “Most common procedures are nose jobs and chin augmentation but one treatment that is really getting prominence nowadays is dimple creation. Not only girls, even boys are increasingly going in for dimple creation.” Dimples are created by making a shallow cavity inside the mouth. This cavity will cause the cheek to sink in at that point creating a dimple. The procedure takes only 30 minutes and requires a local anesthetic. For most people regular activities can be resumed immediately after the procedure.

Dimples enhance a person’s smile making them look cuter and younger. People who have always admired dimples on others can now admire them on themselves.

Plastic Surgeon Inspired By Childhood in Ghana

Each surgeon has a different story concerning what lead them to choose cosmetic surgery. Many join because of the joy that they believe people can gain through their services. Dr. Michael Obeng is the chief plastic surgeon at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio and he told his story to WYTV 33.

Dr. Obeng grew up in Ghana and it is there, during his childhood, that he decided he would one day become a plastic surgeon. In 1985 he saw the results of a reconstructive surgery performed on his neighbor who had suffered a facial disfigurement. The surgeons were from Operation Smile, a not-for-profit, volunteer
medical services organization that provides reconstructive facial surgery to children and young adults all around the world. The results were motivational to him and he told WYTV, “She had a whole new different outlook on life. That really inspired me to be a doctor, specifically a plastic surgeon.”

Not many children in Ghana dream of becoming a plastic surgeon but that is exactly what Obeng dreamed of, and he would not allow himself to fail. He moved to the states in 1993, where he attended medical school. He took a fellowship at Harvard Medical School, while also being an assistant surgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr Obeng said, “I never let anything deter me, because when you have a
dream, people say you can’t do it, but actually it motivates you and makes you work harder.”

He has performed over 400 procedures and is doing complex reconstructions, cosmetic surgery, and hand surgery. He says of his patients, “These are people that would rather be treated elsewhere. But with my skill set, we’re able to keep these sets of patients in the Youngstown area, and it has been very rewarding.” Dr. Obeng is proud to be able to provide a service that is so badly needed for many who have deformities and disfigurements.

He has also started an organization to help provide reconstructive surgeries in other countries. The organization is called Restore Worldwide and it stands for Restoring Emotional Stability Through Outstanding Reconstructive Efforts. This organization obviously stems from his experiences of the life changing effect that reconstructive surgery can have on a person. Some of his efforts have been geared toward surgeries on women who have congenital breast deformities from breast cancer.

He has a goal of traveling to a different country each year, and teaching the local surgeons how to perform these reconstructive procedures. He knows that his organization cannot help everyone in each area that he visits. He says that he wants to teach the local physicians, “So when we leave they can still continue to do some of the work that we’re not able to get to.”

Breast Implants Could Be New Terrorist Bomb

Terrorists have been known to be cunning and relentless in their mission to spread terror around the world. They plan massive attacks, usually on civilian targets and will put bombs anywhere that they suspect will recieve the most notice. Terrorists have even been known to strap bombs to themselves and thus, become heroes to their cause as suicide bombers. It has now been rumored that terrorists are contemplating breast implant bombs.

WHDH News 7 in Boston, Massachusetts US, reported that British spy satellites have intercepted communications from Pakistan and Yemen concerning this. Terrorists in the communication were talking about making explosives that could be placed in a breast implant and then inserted into female terrorists. Sources say that British intelligence has reported, that the surgeries will be performed by plastic surgeons
that had come to London’s hospitals to be trained. Houston plastic surgeon, Dr. Franklin Rose, told KPRC Local 2, that the technology for such a thing is available and would not be very difficult. However he is appalled by the idea saying, “To have a plastic surgeon put a liquid explosive in an implant and teaching somebody how to detonate it , it’s unfathomable.”

Ron Clark, a former Houston FBI Director, believes that homeland security is taking this threat seriously and will be able to handle it. He said, “I’m sure we are gathering all the information, intelligence that the government can. They are also securing all the ports, airports and main attractions as much as possible. The government takes these types of threats seriously and not relaxed. He is confident in the governments ability to prevent these threats from being implemented successfully.

This threat comes right on the heals of the botched bombing on Christmas day. Nigerian terrorist Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to detonate a bomb on the Northwest Airlines Flight 253 bound for Detroit, with 300 people aboard. He sewed the bomb to the inside of his underwear and attempted to detonate it as the jet-liner prepared to land. The bomb failed to detonate and thus the flight was saved, however it raised awareness that such an attack could, in theory, work.

Breast implant bombs is a frightening idea that is very plausible. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has implemented the use of full body scans and believes that these will be successful in preventing these attacks. The full-body scan is equipped to detect explosive materials and residue and so, should be able to detect these bombs. However, it is not really known whether the scanners will be competent in finding explosives inside of breast implants.

3-D Consultations For Plastic Surgery

During a consultation, a plastic surgeon will help a person decide what procedure is right for them. They will be able to give the patient advice as to whether they should get liposuction or merely liposculption. They can encourage chemical peels or a face lift. One thing that they try to do is give the patient a visualization of what they will look like after the procedure. Most surgeons will rely on before and after pictures of other patients. Some may even have a computer program that can give them an idea of what the results of the procedure will be. One surgeon has gone much further than that. He has a 3-D simulator, that will give the patient a picture of what they will look like after the surgery.

Dr. Brett Kotlus, of the Allure Medical Spa in Michigan in the US, has an innovative 3-D simulation system. This system ‘sculpts’ a 3-D image of the patient’s features into the more desirable profile. He reported, “This 3-D system has a clever interface that constructs a realistic, modifiable image that can be sculpted in the same way that cosmetic surgery would sculpt a nose or a breast. Within minutes, we can see possible surgical results. In this scenario, a picture is truly worth a thousand words.” He likes that the system allows him to make modifications or changes based on the patients desires, before they go under the knife.

It is called the Vectra 3-D system, from Canfield Imaging Systems, and has become an integral tool in Dr. Kotlus’s consultations. It captures an image of the face or body with 12 different cameras at a resolution of 36 megapixles. This image is then placed on a computer screen. Dr. Kotlus is then able to make modifications to it and create, before and after images.

There is a Canadian website called Modiface that allows potential patients to see how they might look with a procedure also. This site allows a person to download their picture and then see what it will look like with a nose job or face lift. These images however are not as advanced as those made by the Vectra 3-D system.

Good cosmetic surgeons want to give their patients the best consultation possible. Dr. Kotlus has found that his new imaging system makes it easier for a patient to have realistic expectations, because it gives them a very good picture of what they will look like after the procedure. This has helped to increase patient satisfaction and makes them feel more comfortable about having the procedure done.
