Laser Precision Right on Target

What might have been thought of as mere sci-fi conjecture years ago has now become one of the most popular forms of rejuvenating our faces.

Laser treatments aimed at eliminating annoying skin blemishes and annoying wrinkles have been growing in popularity on both sides of the Atlantic and, as some experts have said, this is likely due to the non-invasive nature of the procedure.

The treatments available with lasers have greatly increased and improved in recent years with new advances now allowing for the smoothing out of fine lines and wrinkles, the correcting of uneven skin pigmentation and even the reducing of scars around the facial area. The latter two treatments have meant that laser procedures are now not just sought by the vain or those scared of aging; they are now performed upon those who might have suffered physical injury or simply want to rejuvenate their face, their confidence and their life.

The reason behind the popularity of laser treatments could well be that none of us have perfect skin; at least not outside the airbrushed world of magazines.

Sian Sutherland, a skincare expert, spoke to the Financial Times, commenting that:  “Almost everybody has some kind of skin imperfection, which can involve some level of embarrassment or even trauma.” Thankfully, this trauma or embarrassment is not something which we are forced to live with anymore.  Even bad scarring from acne and birthmarks can be removed or at least faded by laser treatment and such benefits have now gained the approval of the Department of Health.

With all these benefits and the fact that patients to not have to go “under the knife” or face long recovery rises are the most likely factors behind the staggering 456% increase in the number of men seeking laser facial treatments and  a 215% increase in the number of women wanting the same.

The fact that the figures are almost twice as high for men as they are for women is very intriguing; clearly a stigma about men seeking cosmetic enhancements to their appearance is now slowly ebbing away and this can only be good news for the cosmetic and plastic surgery industry.  The hectic pace of people’s lives these days means that they need a treatment which will allow them to go back to work very quickly; laser treatments offer this possibility.
