Wave Goodbye to Wrinkles

Filed under: Anti Ageing,Facial Surgery,Non-Surgical Treatments — Tags: Anti Ageing, Botox, Cosmetic Medicine, cosmetic surgery, Dysport, face lift, facelift surgery, non-invasive treatment, Surgery — admin @ 5:09 pm

Previously if we wanted to get rid of wrinkles, Botox was the only viable solution on the market.  However a new non-invasive treatment is on the block and scientists behind it are saying that is a more cost-effective way of fighting back against the wrinkles.

The treatment is called Dysport and it is claimed that it can deliver longer-lasting results than its ever popular rival. The U.S Food and Drug administration, the FDA, has just approved the treatment and now the makers of Dysport are hoping that they can market it in a way which will bring it into direct competition with Botox. The latter has become hugely popular in recent years because of its widespread and well-documented usage by celebrities.

Dr. Leslie Baumann, one of the doctors from the University of Miami Cosmetic Medicine, has revealed that the new product could be a quids-in way to fight back against wrinkles and other blemishes of time which show up on our faces.  Dr. Baumann told the Miami Herald: “Results last about four months with Botox – that’s how long it usually takes for the SNAP 25 protein to rebuild itself. However, many Brazilian doctors report that Dysport can last up to six months. It also starts working sooner, taking just two days to kick in instead of the three to seven days you have to wait before seeing results from Botox. The longer-lasting effects could make Dysport more affordable” This is, of course, just industry speculation and it will take time for us to determine whether or not Dysport really is the new kid on the block of surgery or whether, like Botox itself, the effects on the market will be impermanent and only temporarily boosting.  Neither Dysport nor Botox offer permanent defence against ageing, this can only really be got from a facelift, but the former procedures do offer a good way to try-before-you –buy as it were; to try before undergoing the huge invasive surgery of a face-lift.

This new treatment will likely take a while to gain the popularity of its rival Botox and indeed it may only gain the same notoriety through celebrity endorsements. If these start to come in then there is no doubt that Dysport will be a huge success. If it is more cost-effective then it should certainly do well in these troubling economic times which we are all facing.

Patients Warned About Dangers of Cheap Filler Jabs

Filed under: Non-Surgical Treatments — Tags: Anti Ageing, Botox Injections, cheap botox, cheap fillers, Derma Fillers, fillers, Non-Surgical Treatments — admin @ 1:18 am

According to cosmetic surgery experts, patients are strongly recommended not to choose bargain non-surgical treatments as they have a very high chance of resulting in complications.

Heavily discounted injections performed by unqualified individuals can cause serious complications, as noted by the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors (BACD).

In relation to such cases, the association encourages patients to use common sense, research the offer before agreeing to it and not let the price be the determining factor.

Dr John Curran, plastic surgeon and the president of BACD president, pointed out that patients are still interested in cosmetic surgery, but are looking to cut down the costs of treatments due to difficult financial circumstances.

“However, we are concerned that people may be tempted to ‘shop around’ for cheaper treatments which could lead to a surge in horror stories if administered by poorly trained practitioners,” he added.

Dr Curran explained that dermal filler injections are particularly risky, since this area of the industry is not regulated properly.

“Cosmetic dermatology must be delivered in a safe medical environment by a competent, well trained healthcare professional who makes the patient’s interests his or her first concern,” insisted the doctor.

In addition, Dr Anthony Erian, who works as a plastic surgeon at his practice in Harley Street, London, has mentioned that businesses offering cosmetic procedures have been facing difficulties, since female patients often put cosmetic treatments on hold until the global economic situation improves.

US Plastic Surgeons Launch New ‘Liquid Facelift’

Filed under: Facial Surgery — Tags: Anti Ageing, dermal fillers, face surgery, facelift, facial Lines, Facial rejuvenation, Facial Surgery, liquid facelift, non invasive, non surgical facelift, plastic surgery, wrinkles — admin @ 12:18 am

US experts have introduced a new combination of powerful dermal fillers for a new method of non-invasive facelift.

The product is called the Liquid Facelift and the treatment involves multiple dermal fillers as well as Botox. A combination of non-surgical methods used for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and lines around the eyes and forehead and adding definition to the face.

Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon, Dr Assassa, reviewed the new cosmetic treatment: “The combination of Botox and advanced dermal fillers has delivered results that surpass the results of the top experts in the field of facial rejuvenation.

“Liquid Face Lift procedures generally take around an hour and patients can return to most normal routines the next day. You get the results of a traditional face lift, minus the pain, expense and inconvenience.”

Studies have reported that patients expect less recovery time and surgical interventions as facial lifts and rejuvenation procedures are becoming more and more common.

Cosmetic Surgery For The Dead

Filed under: Weird and Wonderful — Tags: Anti Ageing, Botox, dead cosmetic surgery, funeral, wrinkles — admin @ 8:57 pm

This should not come as a surprise. Afer all we want to look our best while are living so why not when we are dead?

According to a Mr. Mark Duffey who runs Everest Funeral in the US this optional extra (do you want Botox with your cremation) is proving to be quite a hit with his more pruned clients.

According to quotes on the Metro web site Mark said  ”People used to say, ‘Just throw me in a pine box and bury me in the back yard’,”

“But that’s all changing. Now people want to be remembered. A funeral is their last major event and they want to look good for it.  I’ve even had people say (ED. i hope he means the living), ‘I want you to get rid of my wrinkles and make me look younger’.”

Botox ‘Reverses Ageing Process’

Filed under: Non-Surgical Treatments — Tags: Anti Ageing, Botox, cosmetic surgery, Creases, Frown, Injection, Lines, men, non surgical, plastic surgery, Procedure, Safe, Sweating, women, wrinkles — admin @ 6:10 pm

A research has reported that botox injections can really make a positive impact on your skin.

The study was published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. It investigated the skin condition of two patients who had their wrinkles and fine lines treated with Botox injections, a non-surgical cosmetic procedure.

The research was of very small scale, but it was noticed that botox had caused positive effects on the quality of both the patients‘ skin conditions. The patients were monitored for a total of 7 years.

The participants did not notice any new wrinkles forming and enjoyed smooth, youthful and naturally looking skin. “I have found that with short-term use, expression lines still remain, but over the long term creases actually disappear, meaning the smoothing effect does not wear off when the botox does.”

Another way Botox injections are used in cosmetic surgery is stopping underarm sweating.

Survey Reveals Botox is a Desirable Christmas gift

Filed under: Anti Ageing — Tags: Anti Ageing, Botox, christmas, clinic, Injection, Lines, wrinkles — admin @ 12:32 am

According to a new study, just under 50 per cent of people in the UK would be happy to receive vouchers for Botox injections as Christmas presents this year.

The study was carried out by Which?, a well known consumer website, and suggested that Botox treatments are seen as a desirable Christmas present by 50 per cent of people aged from 16 to 24 and 45 per cent of people aged 55 to 64.

Jenny Driscoll, a health campaigner for Which?, commented on the results of the study: “Our main advice for people is, don‘t take Botox treatment lightly.

“Whether you‘ve received vouchers as a present, or you are buying the treatment for someone else, the last thing you want to do is put yourself or your loved ones at risk, so make sure you do your research.”

As a result of the difficult financial situation and increased pressure levels, the study shows that one out of ten people in the UK aged 35 and younger would consider Botox treatments as a present to their loved ones as a way to deal with emerging fine lines this Christmas.

Patients Prefer to Stay Conscious While Having Facelifts

Filed under: Facial Surgery — Tags: Anti Ageing, face lift, facelift, Facial Surgery — admin @ 12:39 am

More people opt for sedation and local as the risks can be lower.

It has been revealed that more and more patients of cosmetic surgery are choosing an alternative form of facelift operation during which they can stay fully conscious.

US-based experts have reported that as the popularity of anti-ageing treatments is increasing in many different countries, many people now choose to have procedures performed while being only anaesthetized only locally.

It is also noted that liposuction facelifts which don’t require the patient to be fully unconscious are growing more popular than ones with full anaesthetic for a number of different reasons.

Dr Mike Maris, a surgeon based in Dallas, told WFAA: “I think this is a good procedure for chickens because if you’re afraid to go under anesthetics because of the risk, or if you’re afraid you’ll look too surgical when you get through, I think it’s an ideal procedure.”

Moreover, these changes are also influenced by some people who receive lower income having an opportunity to spend less money on aesthetics as well as the possibility to reduce the length of recovery from any cosmetic surgery.

This week US-based publications have also revealed that ”Botox parties” are becoming very successful among women in the States and could soon win over Tupperware parties in terms of popularity.

Foot Cosmetic Surgery Becoming Increasingly Popular

Filed under: Anti Ageing — Tags: Anti Ageing, feet, feet rejuvenation, feet surgery, foot surgery — admin @ 12:02 pm

Just as the rest of skin shows signs of ageing so do our feet.

There has been an increase in numbers of foot procedures in the UK, as women who strive to be stylish and fashionable use plastic surgery as a way to improve the appearance of their feet.

Experts report that recently patients have been requesting more and more toe and ankle correction procedures as well as Botox injections to the balls of the feet. Moreover, some female patients have ordered liposuction performed on the ankles of their feet in order to make them look more elegant.

“Some patients come through with short toes that they would like lengthened, or they want to have their ”toe cascades” [the curve at the end of the foot, from the big toe down to the little toe] improved, so that when they wear strappy sandals their toes don’t look out of place,” commented president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons Nigel Mercer.

The trend is likely to have come from America, where foot correction procedures, such as toe straightening, shortening and lengthening, are popular among women who wear designer shoes.

Some celebrities are famous for wearing trademark sky scraping heels, such as Victoria Beckham, Gwen Stefani and Gwyneth Paltrow

Popularity Of Injectable Fillers On The Increase

Filed under: Non-Surgical Treatments — Tags: Anti Ageing, dermal fillers, fillers, lip enhancement, Non-Surgical Treatments, Restylane, wrinkles — admin @ 3:51 pm

They Are Not A Permanent Replacement Of Surgical Procedures, Doctors Warn.

Injectable fillers are creeping into the American market, with doctors offering the method to patients, which are usually used to smooth out wrinkles and iron out imperfections of the skin.

However, the treatment is not a replacement for more traditional methods of rhinoplasty, instead they should be considered as a temporary test so that the patient can decide if a nose job is right for them.

The Washington Post quotes Lost Angeles Plastic Surgeon Dr. Alexander Rivkin: “I say it is like taking a nose out for a test drive”.

As a result he argues that the procedure is good for someone with a minor issue with their nose like asymmetry or a flat bridge, as the filler is injected over the ‘bump’, effectively hiding it. They do not actually remove the imperfection or reduce the size of the nose; instead it gives the illusion of such.
The new methods are receiving some criticisms though, with the injectables being largely in their early stages. America’s FDA met recently to look over complaints that the fillers are causing some problems. The method of injecting them into the nose has not been approved by the FDA yet so they were asked to look at what long term affects it might have.

Meanwhile in the United Kingdom, it seems these injectable fillers are being used by women to change the appearance of their legs and create a more defined shape to them. The use of Macrolane injections are being used to define the contours of the calves and buttocks.

It is yet unclear whether these methods will affect their surgical counterparts. Rhinoplasty traditionally involves surgically separating the skin of the nose from the bone and cartilage underneath. These are then sculpted into the shape that has been agreed on before the skin is replaced. Most of the actual surgery is done underneath the skin and therefore scarring is quite minimal.
